Godzilla’s Monsterverse Just Teased A Cool New Titan And Even Told Us What It Might Look Like

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 teased the existence of a new Titan in Korea, and even provided a surprisingly detailed preview of its design. Legendary’s Monsterverse is brimming with gigantic creatures, many of which have been discussed in various movies and shows but not yet shown.

Apple TV+’s Monsterverse has already done much to expand Godzilla and Kong’s cinematic world, introducing the Ion Dragon, the Frost Vark, and the Endopede. The second season is adding to that via a sea monster known as Titan X. Early into the show’s exploration of how the original Monarch crew first came into Titan X’s orbit, another strange creature was set up.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Teased A Monsterverse Version Of Pulgasari

The North Korean Monster Pulgasari

While on their way to check out a lead in the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 premiere, Shaw, Keiko, and Randa talked about a metal-eating beast with the physical attributes of a tiger, a bear, an elephant, and a rhino. They referred to it as Pulgasari, a figure associated with Korean mythology both in-universe and in real life. Apparently, Randa spent a great deal of time looking for it in Korea, but to no avail.

Keiko and Shaw’s teasing comments to Randa indicate that doubts remain as to whether a Monsterverse version of Pulgasari actually exists, since he never found any evidence of it. For now, this remains unclear, but their conversation does indeed plant the seed for it to potentially appear later, perhaps in a later episode or Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Cold War spinoff.

The reference to Pulgasari also functions as an Easter egg to Pulgasari, a North Korean kaiju film made in 1985. It takes the concept of the creature from Korean mythology and turns it into a two-legged, giant-sized monster in the vein of Godzilla.

After all, so many mythological and folklore creatures, including the Loch Ness Monster, are already known to have some basis in reality within the lore of the Monsterverse. With that mind, the prospect of such a creature existing somewhere in the Monsterverse is hardly implausible.

When Pulgasari Could Appear In The Monsterverse

The supposed location of the Monsterverse’s Pulgasari raises some interesting questions about if and when it could ever be shown onscreen. When Godzilla: King of the Monsters laid out its map of Monarch outposts, none were established as being in Korea. That would indicate that if Pulgsari does exist, Monarch never did find him, or at least not by 2019.

Alternatively, it’s possible that Pulgasari has since used the Hollow Earth tunnels to leave Korea behind. If that’s the case, it could be somewhere else on the planet or even deep down in Godzilla and Kong’s Hollow Earth world.

That would allow the Monsterverse to introduce Pulgasari at any time. And given his unique characteristics, the creature failing to make an appearance in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters or its spinoff would be a shame.
