15 Years Later, Dark Souls Players Can Explore A Completely New Area

It may have been 15-years since the launch of Dark Souls, but the love for one of the first FromSoftware titles remains, with players still flocking to the punishing dark fantasy action RPG after all these years. However, as with any single-player title, replaying it multiple times can lead to it becoming quite monotonous and areas becoming as familiar as the back of your hand.

Luckily, to combat this, one fan has found a way to open up a previously unplayable area of Dark Souls, allowing players to explore a brand-new section of the beloved map.

Dark Souls Is The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Located in Lordran, in the out-of-bounds town area that can be seen from Firelink Shrine, this new playable area can be accessed by warping to Firelink Shrine’s bonfire courtesy of the Lord Vessel (which makes warping available). As such, getting out of the area is also only available by warping as it is not linked to the rest of the map like the main game. Playable Out Of Bounds is a free-to-download mod by Crest over on Nexus Mods, and as their first map project, players can expect potential bugs.

Of course, it is also worth remembering that Dark Souls is over 15-years old, and although it received a remaster back in 2018, it is still an outdated game, so do not expect this new area to be a feast for the eyes. However, it works to add even more life to the already comprehensive map, revealing what could have been if the area was accessible from the beginning.

After 15 Years, Explore A New Area

It is hard to believe that almost two decades have passed since we were first graced with Dark Souls, and with the game being widely regarded as one of the best of all time, it is no wonder that fans are flocking to this new download in the hopes of getting to explore even more of the FromSoftware hit.

However, if you are still looking for more reasons to hit up yet another playthrough of Dark Souls, you can check out a Dark Souls II overhaul that gives the sequel the makeover that it has always deserved. Additionally, Dark Souls 3: Champions Ashes adds even more content to the third installment, which makes for the perfect way to cushion the blow of not having received Dark Souls 4.

With the Dark Souls franchise going on to inspire hundreds of games since it was first released, there is no denying that Dark Souls has been a revolutionary addition to the gaming sphere, and now, you have just another excuse to embark on yet another playthrough.
