Pokémon Winds & Waves Legendary ‘Mon Spotted

The Pokémon Winds and Waves reveal in the Pokémon Presents showcase brought a few key details to the surface, but a lot remains to be seen. For now, the big highlights are the yet-unnamed region, which is apparently inspired by Southeast Asia, and the selection of starters. One detail in the trailer, however, might be a clue to a Legendary Pokémon that’s yet to be revealed.

Reddit user GildDigger shared an image of a cloud in the Pokémon Winds and Waves trailer that features a darker coloration and a vaguely draconic form. The shot in question occurs roughly two minutes and 40 seconds into the trailer, with the camera panning up from the protagonist to reveal the horizon before diving under the waves. While it’s essentially a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance, GildDigger proposes that this could be the silhouette of a Legendary Gen 10 Pokémon.

Is This Pokémon Winds & Waves’ First Legendary?

The Jury’s Out For Now

Realistically, the cloud could be anything, but a Legendary Pokémon might be the simplest explanation. With such a distinct design compared to the other clouds, it’s clearly there for a reason, and its shape resembles the typically impressive forms of Legendary Pokémon. The snaking neck, for example, doesn’t feel far off from the Generation 9 Legendary designs, especially the Electric/Dragon-type Miraidon.

Reddit user Widowmaker55 presents the silhouette of Gyarados for comparison, which could explain the cloud by itself. LivingCheese292 follows up by suggesting that the legend that inspired Gyarados is perfect for the setting of Winds & Waves, arguing that the Gen 10 Legendaries have a “good chance” to be Dragon types.

Pokémon Winds & Waves Will Launch Next Year

Don’t Expect Any Answers Soon

Unfortunately, Pokémon Winds and Waves isn’t coming out until 2027, so it might be a while before we have a clear answer to this particular mystery. Commenter Underkiing expects the cloud to be “a topic of conversation all year,” which, given the Pokémon community’s penchant for endless theorizing, seems like a reasonable prediction. Unfortunately, without any more information to work with, most discussions of the topic will likely be dead ends.

Whether it’s just a nod to Gyrados or an early reveal of a Pokémon Winds & Waves Legendary, the cloud is a fun Easter egg for sleuths to ponder. Hopefully, we’ll get a few more answers about what to expect from the Gen 10 games soon. Even if we can’t get a definitive explanation of the cloud, simply knowing the name of the new region in Pokémon Winds and Waves would be an improvement.
