DC Gifts Black Canary Her Greatest Redesign Since the Arrowverse

The Arrowverse delivered some of the greatest redesigns of classic DC characters to date, from Green Arrow to Supergirl and everyone in between. That said, one Golden Age hero’s latest look overhaul may just take the cake as their greatest costume of all time.

DC’s May 2026 comic solicitations have officially dropped, and among them is a teaser for Sirens: Love Hurts #4 from writer Tini Howard and artist Babs Tarr, set to release on May 13. The issue marks the fourth installment in a series following Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Black Canary as they team up to hunt down Gotham’s latest serial killer targeting women.

One of the standout elements of the series so far has been Babs Tarr’s main covers, which give the Gotham City Sirens some of their boldest redesigns to date. Issue #4 spotlights Black Canary, and her design is nothing short of exceptional.

As winter melts to spring and the marriage of power couple Black Canary and Green Arrow looms large in Gotham City, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy struggle to pick up the shattered pieces of their friendship-turned-situationship…and a shocking revelation turns Catwoman’s relationship with Batman upside down. Even the bride- and groom-to-be face their own rocky walk down the aisle on their wedding day…one that the killer Horoscope is determined to make a bloody affair!

While the Arrowverse did a fantastic job bringing Black Canary to live-action with a sleek yet applaudably practical suit, it has nothing on Babs Tarr’s Love Hurts design for Dinah Lance. Tarr’s design leans more into Black Canary’s more traditional character designs, such as her iconic fishnet tights, boots, and black leather jacket, while also amping up the sex appeal. The result feels both familiar and daring.

Tarr’s design puts a more modern spin on the Black Canary costume, resulting in something even riskier than Dinah’s typical outfits. While the costume shows a bit more skin than is typical for her character and may lean toward impractical for a street-level hero, there’s no denying the design is badass and more than fun to look at. It embraces excess in a way that feels intentional rather than gratuitous.

What truly elevates the costume is the black high-waisted corset bodysuit with a lace-up front that stops mid-ribcage, giving way to skin and a matching strappy bralette. The chain choker necklace with a silver padlock is another design element that deviates from the norm, adding a punk edge that perfectly suits Dinah’s rebellious energy.

The cherry on top of the design isn’t anything material, though. Dinah’s right forearm features a simple line tattoo of a faded green arrow, an obvious tribute to Green Arrow and their iconic romance.
