Star Wars Outlaws Official Prequel Is A Welcome Surprise, Fans Agree

Following the news that a sequel to 2024’s Star Wars: Outlaws had been canceled as the result of low sales, fans of the Massive Entertainment action-adventure lost out on all hope of more stories set in the first ever open-world Star Wars video game. However, it would seem as though miracles exist in the galaxy far, far away with the news that Outlaws would be continued in a brand-new release.

Launched earlier this month and acting as a prequel to the events of Star Wars: Outlaws, this is one that fans of the game will not want to miss out on.

Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon Is A Hit With Fans

Kay gives Nix a treat in Star Wars Outlaws

Written by New York Times bestselling author Mike Chen, Star Wars: Low Red Moon is set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and immerses us even more into the criminal underbelly of the world in which Star Wars: Outlaws protagonist Kay Vess finds herself a part of. However, Low Red Moon won’t follow Kay, it will instead shed more light on Jaylen Vrax, the crime lord who acts as her superior.

Released on 3 February, Star Wars: Low Red Moon serves as the perfect prequel to Star Wars: Outlaws and although it may not be that DLC or sequel we had first anticipated, it is definitely the next best thing.

Joined by none other than ND-5, the commando droid in a trenchcoat (no, this is not the set-up to a joke), the official synopsis for Star Wars: Low Red Moon reads as follows:

Jaylen Barsha, heir to his family’s immense power and wealth, had his life charted out for him neatly and meticulously by his parents, even though he suspected his neglected half-brother Sliro would be a better fit for the bright corporate future his parents envisioned. Then the Empire stripped it all away on trumped-up charges of conspiracy against his family. Before he can reach Sliro for help redeeming the Barsha name, a battle droid arrives at the family compound with a mission to kill every last member of the Barsha clan. Jaylen manages to fend off the attack as the sole survivor, but realizes the droid, who he reprograms, is his only chance to stay alive. But he can no longer be Jaylen Barsha – he’ll have to live now as Jaylen Vrax.

Over on r/starwarsbooks, fans have been discussing the latest installment to the Star Wars: Outlaws universe, and many agree that it is a welcome addition. “I just finished the audiobook and had a really great time,” one positive review reads. “I loved ND-5 while playing Outlaws but found Jaylan and Sliro to be underdeveloped (but promising) so this book was right up my alley. Getting to hear the voices from the game narrate this adventure was absolutely worth it, and I especially love the touch that ND-5’s voice is only modulated when he has dialogue as opposed to his thoughts.”

Another fan agreed, adding, “I am not far in, but it is really good so far, lots of cool world building and added context to the Clone Wars.

I think Mike Chen is a great author and this book feels to me like a spiritual follow-up to Brotherhood.”

A Star Wars: Outlaws sequel may no longer be on the horizon, but it seems as though its story is far from over with the launch of Star Wars: Low Red Moon.
