Crysencio Summerville’s extra-time winner saw 10-man West Ham eventually overcome League One side Burton Albion 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Hammers winger continued his fine recent form, with his deflected 95th-minute strike proving the difference at the Pirelli Stadium.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side survived a scare when referee Lewis Smith waved away a penalty appeal, after Jake Beesley went down under Konstantinos Mavropanos’ challenge.
West Ham improved in the second half with Callum Wilson and Soungoutou Magassa denied by Bradley Collins, as the tie went into extra time.
Yet, the Burton goalkeeper was helpless five minutes into the first additional period, when Summerville embarked on a fine individual run from the left flank, before his 20-yard drive flashed in via a slight deflection off Terence Vancooten.
The Premier League side were reduced to 10 men in the 101st minute, with Freddie Potts shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Julian Larsson.
But, despite facing late pressure with Kyran Lofthouse and Kain Adom going close for Burton, the Premier League strugglers held out to prevail.

Data Debrief: Summerville continues to shine
Following his game-winning contribution, no Premier League player has scored more goals in all competitions in 2026 than Summerville (six), who has also registered six direct involvements in his last five FA Cup appearances (three goals, three assists).
It was enough to book West Ham’s place in round five for the first time in three years, while the Hammers have now progressed from their last six FA Cup ties against sides from League One or lower.
That was despite Potts, at 22 years and 155 days, becoming the youngest player to be sent off for West Ham since Callum McNaughton, who was 19 years and 303 days old when he was dismissed against Aldershot Town in August 2011.
