This Free Steam Open-World RPG May Steal My Life This Year

Steam has no shortage of free offerings on the platform. In a way, that’s how the marketplace continued to rise, as the free-to-play playerbase grew considerably over the past 15 years.

If you’re a fan of free-to-play RPGs, you may want to wishlist this upcoming Steam game. Based on the visuals alone, it has a lot of promise.

This Steam RPG Is Going To Take All My Free Time

If It Delivers

For those of you who aren’t aware, there’s going to be a video game adaptation of The Seven Deadly Sins, a famous series that originally debuted in manga form. It’s called The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, and it’s slated to officially launch in March of this year.

Originally slated for an earlier release on January 28, the game was delayed to make it “more stable, refine the combat system, and improve exploration,” following a playtest that concluded last November. That delay also allowed it to be removed from the wake of Arknights: Endfield, another open-world RPG that just recently arrived.

Here’s the setup for the uninitiated: “Step into the role of Prince Tristan of Liones and explore an open-world Britannia, as you embark on a journey to restore order to a world thrown into chaos by the collision of time and space.” It’s a pretty simple premise, especially if you aren’t familiar with the source material.

This is especially the case because Origin will kick off a brand-new original storyline set in the same world of Britannia, as you explore the open world and build your party. Given that this is a character-centric RPG, expect lots of narrative twists and turns, which gives it a leg-up from many other free-to-play JRPGs.

It Looks Absolutely Beautiful, Too

It Could Be A Fun World To Explore

Steam Castle in Distance-1

The kicker is that The Seven Deadly Sins: Origins looks fantastic. It helps that this is a lived-in world, with roughly eight years of source material to draw from, not to mention all the non-manga-related projects. The open-world system seems fully realized, and the visuals do justice to the source.

With any luck, that open world won’t be full of bloat. Given the studio’s apparent restraint in adapting this existing universe and the “main character” narrative focus, we could get a seriously impressive RPG when all is said and done. Based on the feedback from the test periods, fans are looking forward to the potential this one has.

By looks alone, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin should pull in a lot of eyes to funnel people to the Steam version of the game. It’s also launching on PS5 come March, as long as everything goes according to plan.
