Netflix's New 6-Part Spy Thriller Series Is An Instant Streaming Sensation

Netflix has released an exciting new spy thriller series that has instantly made it into the streamer’s charts. The spy thriller genre has gained strength in recent years, with many successful espionage shows emerging on different streaming services. One of the best spy thriller series of all time is Apple TV’s Slow Horses, which has maintained an annual schedule for new seasons.

That said, multiple Netflix Original series also come from the hit genre. According to Netflix, Unfamiliar is now the 7th most-watched series on the streaming service in the United States. The 6-part German spy thriller series left behind shows like the new hit comedy Free Bert, the 19-season Western Heartland, and the stand-up comedy special Mike Epps: Delusional. Unfamiliar was released on Netflix on Thursday, February 5th, making it an instant nationwide hit.

With only one day of availability on the platform, Unfamiliar should continue to climb Netflix’s charts as the weekend begins. At the moment, the three most-watched TV shows on Netflix in the United States are Bridgerton, one of Netflix’s most popular series that recently returned for season 4, The Lincoln Lawyer, whose season 4 dropped on the same day as Unfamiliar, and Is It Cake? Valentines.

At the time of writing, Unfamiliar has yet to break into the global top ten most-watched TV shows on Netflix chart. That list is spearheaded by the Netflix Original series Bridgerton. The rest of the top five include HIS & HERS, Is It Cake? Valentines, Sullivan’s Crossing, and Animal Kingdom. While Unfamiliar is not part of the list, the show is already finding success worldwide.

Unfamiliar follows Simon (Felix Kramer) and Meret Schäfer (Susanne Wolff) a married couple of spies that sees their past come calling on their daughter’s 16th birthday.

Currently, Unfamiliar is trending in 9 countries. The 6-part spy thriller series ranks as high as the 3rd most-watched TV show on Netflix in Ukraine. Besides that country and the United States, Unfamiliar is in the top ten TV shows for the following countries: Bulgaria, Denmark, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Vietnam. Data from Germany, where the show is from, has yet to be revealed.

No updates have been shared about a potential Unfamiliar season 2 at this time. However, the Netflix spy thriller series ends season 1 with the door wide open for more stories if the show becomes a streaming hit. Based on how Unfamiliar is already a success in the United States and other countries right after its debut, the Netflix series’ future is looking bright.
