Isekai has dominated the anime scene for the better part of a decade, with countless shows donning extravagant titles airing each season, all following a hero finding themselves in some other world. While many of those shows quietly come and go without much fanfare, others have become a staple of the growing anime culture of the 2020s.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation falls into the latter category, having premiered in 2021 and remaining at the top of its increasingly popular, oftentimes divisive, genre. However, with the anime’s third season just around the corner, a surprising and potentially disappointing update about the series’ future has put fans on edge.
Mushoku Tensei Production Company Egg Firm Has Been Acquired by Aniplex
Ahead of Mushoku Tensei‘s season three premiere scheduled for July, production company Egg Firm released an official statement on X informing followers the company had been acquired in full by Aniplex. Egg Firm has been attached to a number of popular titles, including Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Prison School, and the Sword Art Online franchise.
In the statement, Egg Firm claimed that business operations will go unchanged despite the company becoming a fully-owned subsidiary of Aniplex, one of the biggest production companies in anime and itself a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
A Guide to the 20 Best Isekai Anime on Crunchyroll, Netflix & More
Even with the oversaturation of the genre, there are still plenty of excellent isekai anime shows that every fan should consider streaming.
Since the early 2000s, Aniplex has been involved in some of anime’s most popular productions ever, and just recently scored big with the historic global box office performance of 2025’s Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. The reason for the deal between Egg Firm and Aniplex has not been broadcast, but it’s now reasonable to assume Mushoku Tensei‘s production will not be starved of resources.
However, many fans have expressed concern about Aniplex’s latest acquisition and what it means for Mushoku Tensei‘s future.
Should Fans Be Concerned for Mushoku Tensei’s Future Following Aniplex’s Latest Deal?
Though the acquisition by Aniplex is a net positive for Egg Firm and its numerous productions, at least in the sense that limited resources should never be an issue, fans of the series have taken to social media to express their apprehensiveness. Egg Firm stated that business would be unchanged, but Aniplex, and Sony, by extension, now pose as extra cooks in the kitchen.
For a series like Mushoku Tensei, which is intended for older audiences and deals with some mature subject matter, there is also concern about potential censorship if Egg Firm’s new parent company feels strongly about certain scenes. Mushoku Tensei is set to return in July 2026, and though fans are looking forward to its third season, many are also anxious about its future.
