Netflix’s 10/10 Masterpiece Thriller Series That Was Quietly Released Could Return In The Future

One of Netflix‘s best thriller series ended recently, and while it was a fitting finale for the long-running show, the door is still open for it to come back in the future. Netflix is one of the best streaming services when it comes to the thriller genre. Many of Netflix’s best TV shows fall in the genre, making it one of the streamer’s priorities.

Some of those shows that return with new seasons in 2026 include The Night Agent, Black Doves, The Diplomat, and more. However, one of the most popular thriller series on Netflix came to a close in 2025. While that usually means the end of the line for a show, such a popular series could always return with a sequel, and the door is definitely still open for it.

Netflix’s Hit Thriller Series Ended Like It Should Have

You was released on Lifetime on September 9, 2018. The thriller series showed a lot of promise, but did not have enough viewership to grant a season 2 order. Thankfully, Netflix picked up the show, with the Penn Badgley series quickly dominating the streaming service’s charts. You is one of Netflix’s best series, and the show ended up running for 5 seasons.

You season 5 marked the end of the line for Joe Goldberg on April 24, 2025. You‘s ending was fitting for Joe. While the character saw himself as the hero of the story, Joe was a psychological and physical threat to so many women throughout the show, making it impossible for the series to see the serial killer find any sort of twisted happy ending.

Netflix’s 5-Part Masterpiece Thriller Series Has The Perfect Ending

Netflix’s library is filled with exciting thriller series, but this TV show is easily one of the best, and after 5 seasons, it has the perfect ending.

Joe’s ending was poetic, with the character being put behind bars by a few of the women who survived meeting him. Additionally, if Joe had died, like he wanted, his suffering would have ended there. The best justice for what Joe did was to leave him alone for the rest of his days, the thing he feared the most, as he rotted in prison.

While You season 5 has the perfect ending for Joe Goldberg’s story, we know how TV shows are always finding ways of coming back these days. Given its popularity, it would not be unreasonable to believe that Netflix could try to get a You sequel series off the ground in the future. Additionally, with Joe still alive, the door is open if Penn Badgley changes his mind about returning down the line.

You season 6, or a sequel series, already has the perfect starting point. What made the Netflix psychological thriller series so good was Joe’s narration, as the audience was invited into the deranged character’s psyche. Who knows how years in prison could impact Joe’s mind? Watching the shift in his narration and seeing how Joe, an intelligent and capable character, attempts to escape prison would make for an exciting continuation to You.
