Titus Welliver’s Gritty New Western Crime Series Role Gets Exciting Tease As He Debuts Major Villain Character

With just days to go until Dark Winds returns to AMC, executive producer and star Zahn McClarnon shared a brand-new photo of Titus Welliver’s character from the upcoming fourth season. On the psychological thriller, McClarnon plays a Navajo police officer named Joe Leaphorn who investigates crimes with Deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon).

Welliver is one of several actors who have joined the cast of Dark Winds season 4, which premieres on February 15. McClarnon took to Instagram to share several photos from the new season, including one that features Welliver’s character, crime boss Dominic McNair, who oversees the shipment of drugs and stolen products to and from Los Angeles.

In the photo, Welliver is wearing a blue button-up shirt with a serious expression on his face. A police officer can be seen in the background, insinuating that this scene takes place in jail or the Navajo Tribal Police Station.

McClarnon’s image of Welliver gives a much clearer look at his character than fans saw in the trailer, in which McNair said, “If that girl talks, this whole thing unravels.”

In a recently released promo for Dark Winds season 4, McNair also made a brief appearance when he said, “You’re never going to see that girl again,” referring to the main storyline this season, which revolves around a missing Navajo teenager.

Other photos show Jim Chee looking behind him while driving his police car, Bernadette Manuelito with a notepad and pen ready to take notes, Irene Vaggan wearing a hoodie while sitting inside her vehicle, and a wide-eyed and worried-looking Billie Tsosie.

Welliver is best known for playing Harry Bosch on the long-running series Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. He guest-starred on the spinoff Ballard and plans to start filming more episodes soon. The actor has also appeared in Argo, NYPD Blue, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy and The Good Wife.

Welliver isn’t the only new cast member in Dark Winds season 4. Isabel DeRoy-Olson has signed on as a series regular, while Chaske Spencer and Luke Barnett have recurring roles (just like Welliver) this year. Franka Potente will appear as a guest star.

Other Dark Winds cast members include Jessica Matten and Deanna Allison.

John Wirth is the showrunner on Dark Winds, and he works alongside a producing team that consists of McClarnon, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, Graham Roland, Anne Hillerman, Tina Elmo, Vince Gerardis, Vince Calandra, Chris Eyre and Jim Chory.

The critically-acclaimed series, which has been adapted from the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee books by Tony Hillerman, holds a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dark Winds season 3 ended with Bernadette and Joe taking down the human trafficking ring, Bernadette killing Budge, Reynolds dying and Tom Spenser avoiding jail. It was a jam-packed finale, with several unresolved storylines that will likely be explored further in the coming weeks.

Dark Winds season 4 premieres Sunday, February 15 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
