Manchester City v Newcastle: Commentary, updates, goals and stats for EFL Cup semi-final, 2nd leg

Manchester City host Newcastle tonight. Follow the action from the Etihad with our live commentary…

Newcastle have it all to do tonight if they are to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki at St James’ Park put City in the driving seat and they are odds-on favourites to finish the job and set up an EFL Cup final against Arsenal on March 22.

The visitors have injuries in midfield but will hope to perform better than they did at Anfield on Saturday when they lost 4-1 to Liverpool.

“We very much have to have that belief,” said boss Eddie Howe. “The second goal in the first game was obviously a big disappointment for us, coming so late, but we still believe and we have to believe.

“I believe we have got the players that can go to any stadium in the world and perform and score goals. I think collectively the spirit within the group is there.

“It’s going to be an almighty challenge – there is no bigger challenge than Manchester City away. I think we say that every time we play them but we believe in ourselves and are going to give it a good go.”
