The Witcher 4 Official Map Size Is Leaving Gamers Divided

The Witcher 4 is hands-down one of the most anticipated open-world RPGs in modern gaming, continuing the beloved saga that has encapsulated audiences since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s release over 10 years ago. However, The Witcher 4‘s map size has become a topic of great debate among fans.

According to reports (via X), the official map size of The Witcher 4 will be roughly equivalent to The Witcher 3, only “deeper and more immersive,” leaving fans torn. While it’s unclear the exact scale of The Witcher 4‘s map, some players argue that The Witcher 3 was already massive enough and there’s no need for something bigger, with others wanting exactly that.

How Big Is The Witcher 4’s Map?

The Witcher 4‘s official cinematic trailer released over a year ago now, and fans of the game were obsessing at the time over the game’s eventual location, which appears to be in the far north region of The Continent.

According to sources at The Gamer reporting on The Witcher 4 at the time, the game will also be “roughly the same size” as The Witcher 3, causing upheaval among players who were expecting a GTA 6-scale sequel for The Witcher 4. Players are completely torn over whether CD Projekt Red’s “quality over quantity” approach is truly the best one.

Some fans “hope that regardless of quality, quantity is there too,” as JohnnyMP points out, adding that The Witcher 3 had both, “and it’s the one game that did it best.” However, players like defeat argue that this is exactly what Witcher needs. TW3’s magic wasn’t size—it was depth. If they double down on immersion, we’re eating good.”

It’s debatable just how much of The Witcher 3‘s immersive gameplay is a result of the scale of the map itself, or if it’s due to the massive amount of content packed into every corner of the map. Further, players are likely going to be getting a sprawling story and countless side quests, contracts, etc., and it’s unlikely players will still be wanting for more.

The Witcher 4 Has A Lot To Live Up To

Needless to say, fans of The Witcher 3 have their hopes incredibly high for the next installment in the franchise, and regardless of the size of the game’s map, The Witcher 4 will need to deliver in major ways to live up to the hype. The Witcher franchise has one of the most dedicated and passionate player-bases in modern gaming, however, so it’s unlikely every player will find the game to be flawless.

That said, even if The Witcher 4 ends up being no larger than The Witcher 3, there’s no question that the narrative will need to be an absolute banger to keep players happy across the board. Without a powerful story that develops and expands on The Witcher‘s iconic and beloved character arcs, the immersive world’s size will be the least of fans’ concerns.
