Movies trend on streaming platforms for a while and later leave the charts, but Apple TV has one movie that, after almost a year, is still trending. Apple TV has stood out for not having licensed content like other streaming platforms, instead having original movies and TV shows from a variety of genres.
Apple TV has gradually earned a spot among the most popular streaming platforms, and even though it has had some weak projects, it has mostly brought high-quality content in movies and TV shows. When it comes to movies, Apple TV currently has a movie in its Top 10 that has been trending for almost a year: The Gorge.
The Gorge Is Still Trending On Apple TV After Releasing In February 2025
On February 14, 2025, Apple TV released The Gorge, a sci-fi horror action movie written by Zach Dean and directed by Scott Derrickson. The Gorge follows Levi (Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy), two elite snipers assigned to guard opposite sides of a top-secret gorge for a year with no contact between them.
The gorge houses monstrous creatures referred to as “The Hollow Men”, and after some time, Levi and Drasa break the rules and make contact, eventually forming a strong bond. Together, Levi and Drasa make a disturbing discovery about the gorge, while also doing their best to keep their relationship a secret from their superiors.
The Gorge quickly climbed Apple TV’s Top 10 chart, reaching the #1 spot. While most movies gradually leave the charts, The Gorge has stayed there since its release. At the time of writing, The Gorge is sitting at the third spot in Apple TV’s Top 10 movies, and it’s to be seen if it will leave in the coming weeks.
The Gorge’s Reviews Were Mixed, But It’s Still Worth Watching
Although The Gorge has been a success on Apple TV for almost a year, it wasn’t a hit with critics. The Gorge currently holds a 62% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 74% popcornmeter score, with critics finding that it’s good as a romance movie but gets lost when the action-thriller parts take over, becoming a predictable story.
The Gorge’s mix of genres has received divisive reactions, as has its story, with some praising its originality and others finding it more like a mix of parts of other sci-fi action movies. Still, The Gorge is worth watching for the performances of Teller and Taylor-Joy, their chemistry, concept, music (by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), and visuals.
The Gorge is one of those cases where a movie isn’t the critics’ favorite but is much better received by the general audience, who have enjoyed it for its premise and romance story, though most agree with critics that its blend of genres isn’t the best. Still, The Gorge is worth watching, and trending for almost a year is proof of that.
