10 DC Universe Characters Confirmed To Debut In 2026 That We Can’t Wait For, Ranked

The DC Universe is getting bigger in 2026, with multiple projects introducing exciting characters to the franchise, and these are the new DC players who appear as the most interesting as we head into the new year. 2025 was a great year for James Gunn’s DCU. The franchise’s first movie, Superman, was a major success to the point that a sequel was fast-tracked.

Superman debuted several key characters for the DCU, including a few beyond the Man of Steel’s usual main cast, like the Justice Gang heroes. DC’s upcoming releases in 2026 will do the same, with multiple new heroes and villains appearing in most projects. From big comic book names to characters who will play emotional roles and more, these are the most exciting DCU debuts:

10

Alura In-Ze

Emily Beecham as Maura in 1899

At the bottom of the list is Supergirl’s mother, Alura In-Ze, who will be played by Emily Beecham in 2026’s Supergirl movie. The character will be part of a new take on the heroine’s backstory, as the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics reveal an alternate fate for Krypton, Supergirl, and her family.

The first Supergirl movie trailer teased just that, showing Argo City being shielded and separating itself from the rest of Krypton as the planet exploded. Supergirl should be revealed to have stayed for years on the floating rock, watching everyone die around her. Sadly, Alura is one of the early deaths, so her role will be emotional.

9

Zor-El

If Kara Zor-El’s Kryptonian mother is on the list, then her father also needs to be part of it. David Krumholtz plays Zor-El in Supergirl, and that is a perfect choice, as the actor’s signature charisma is a great fit for the character responsible for saving Argo City and coming up with ways to keep its citizens alive for as long as he could.

After seeing how Bradley Cooper’s Jor-El, who is Zor-El’s brother, wanted his son, David Corenswet’s Superman, to take over Earth, it will be interesting to discover how much these characters differ. Zor-El stays with Kara a long time after her mother’s death, and he ultimately saves her, so he will be important in Supergirl.

Krem Of The Yellow Hills

Now, this is a character that I thought would have ranked a bit higher when I initially looked at DC’s 2026 projects earlier this year. However, while I was very excited by what I saw in the Supergirl movie trailer, the one thing I disliked was Krem of the Yellow Hills. The reason is simple.

DC had the perfect actor in Matthias Schoenaerts, who looks very close to Krem just stepping out of the comics to the big screen. However, Supergirl‘s design for its main villain takes away what made Krem himself, turning the character into a generic Sci-Fi bad guy. As he could be a frightening foe, he ranks 8th for potential.

7

William Macon

William Macon is one of the DC characters I’m counting on being a much bigger player than the studio is letting on. Fear the Walking Dead star Garret Dillahunt’s new DC character is rumored to be William Hand, aka Black Hand, in disguise. If that were to turn out accurate, then one of the biggest DC events would be set up.

HBO’s Green Lantern TV Show Trailer All But Confirms Massive DC Villain Debut

The first trailer for Lanterns sets up a Justice League connection that strengthens a major DC Universe Green Lantern villain debut theory.

DC Studios has teased HBO’s Lanterns series by claiming that Hal Jordan and John Stewart come to Earth to find an “ancient horror.” As such, the start of a DCU version of the iconic Blackest Night event could be coming in 2026. If Macon is an original character, the fact that Dillahunt plays him would make for an intense antagonist at least.

Ruthye Marye Knoll

Ruthye Marye Knoll is the co-lead of DC’s Supergirl movie, a role the character also served in the comics. Ruthye is the one who jump-starts Supergirl’s story in the Woman of Tomorrow series, with her father being killed by Krem and the young girl getting Supergirl to help her get her revenge.

In the comics, Ruthye narrates the story, so we get to spend a lot of time with the character, making her a fan-favorite as she grows on a trip across the cosmos with the Girl of Steel. Ruthye has the potential to become a popular DCU character and a transformative force in the life of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.

Clayface

Clayface is a special case on the list. The character has already appeared in the DC Universe before his solo movie, being voiced by Alan Tudyk in the animated Creature Commandos. However, since 2026’s Clayface movie marks his live-action debut and also the first time his main DCU actors plays the villain, I think his inclusion is warranted.

Tom Rhys Harries stars as the Matt Hagen version of Clayface in the 2026 DC movie. Based on set photos and videos, fans will get to see the character’s tragic backstory, which includes a gruesome disfigurement as Hagen, an actor, becomes a clay monster. Seeing a tragic take on Clayface and a peek at the DCU’s Gotham City is exciting.

4

Sinestro

DC has yet to reveal the extent of Sinestro’s role in HBO’s Lanterns. However, the fact that the most prominent Green Lantern villain will appear when the characters finally get a new live-action project is extremely exciting. Sinestro can shine in a dark, True Detective-like series such as Lanterns.

The potential is there for both flashbacks that show Sinestro’s past with Hal Jordan, and present scenes where we see how the villain has changed, perhaps with a fully functional Yellow Lantern Corps. Sinestro is described as “ruthless yet undeniably charming,” and actor Ulrich Thomsen looks perfect for the role.

3

Lobo

The first character in the top three is one that I have long wanted to see from the moment James Gunn’s DC Universe was announced. Jason Momoa made for a fun Aquaman, helping revitalize the hero in the eyes of fans after years of being painted as a joke. However, Arthur Curry was never the ideal role for him.

Enter Lobo, who Momoa has been asking to play for many years. A gruff, charismatic, and violent bounty hunter that plays to Momoa’s strengths. The Supergirl trailer revealed the first look at Jason Momoa’s Lobo, and the character’s design was comics-accurate. Since Lobo was not in the source material, his role remains a thrilling surprise.

2

John Stewart

The top two characters I most want to see in DC’s 2026 projects come from the same series, Lanterns. Aaron Pierre showed the world in 2024’s Rebel Ridge that he is an action star in the making, built exactly like one would expect a young John Stewart to look like. I have been a fan of his since 2018’s Krypton.

As the youngest of Lanterns‘ two lead characters, there is no denying that the DCU is setting up John Stewart to be its main Green Lantern. Described as a recruit in the series, and being trained by Hal Jordan, it will be fun to get to know what makes John tick and how he develops into a hero throughout the series.

1

Hal Jordan

Finally, the most exciting confirmed 2026 DCU character debut has to be that of Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. The hero has been given the short end of the stick, taken off live-action projects ever since Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern movie failed back in 2011. Hal deserves better, and Lanterns can do that for him.

Hal is described as a Lantern legend heading into the series, with the first Lanterns trailer teasing his unconventional methods of training John Stewart. The DCU version of Hal seems to be experienced, fun, confident, and cocky, making for the perfect live-action adaptation of the hero in Gunn’s DC Universe.
