Virgil van Dijk conceded that he has “no idea” whether he will still be a Liverpool player next season.
Liverpool captain Van Dijk is one of three high-profile players – along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah – who are out of contract in June.
Talks between Liverpool and Van Dijk have been ongoing for some time and the 33-year-old defender has previously indicated he is keen to extend his stay.
Since making the move to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018, Van Dijk has made 310 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.
The Netherlands international was an integral part of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp, lifting eight major honours, which included the 2018-19 Champions League.
Van Dijk also won the FA Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, with the possibility of adding to his one Premier League title and two EFL Cups this year.
However, in the wake of Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties on Tuesday, he acknowledged there remains some uncertainty over his future.
“I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely, I have no idea,” Van Dijk said on his future.
“It is not on hold. Nothing is on hold. I keep saying the same thing. There are 10 games to go and that is my full focus.
“If there is news, you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes, but that is about it.
“At the moment, I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.”

Liverpool are 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and will play in the EFL Cup final on Sunday against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium.
Arne Slot’s team had been challenging in Europe until their last-16 shootout defeat to PSG, having led the round of 16 tie 1-0 heading into the second leg.
Indeed, Liverpool were eliminated from a major European knockout tie for the first time ever after winning the first leg away from home, progressing from 30 straight ties before.
And Van Dijk insisted that he will use their Champions League disappointment to end what could be his final campaign with Liverpool on a high.
“There are two big prizes we can still get,” added Van Dijk. “We are going to give it everything. We have to feel the disappointment tonight, but from tomorrow, it is about recovery.
“If we bring this intensity to Wembley with our fans then I am positive. We don’t need any added motivation. If you need any added motivation you are in the wrong business.”
