Diablo 4 Is Making Boss Fights Matter Like Never Before, & Now I Can’t Wait To Kill Lilith

Diablo 4‘s PTR for Season Eight is now live, and it has added some amazing new payoffs for defeating bosses. While taking out bosses like Andariel or Varshan has always been worth it for a chance to get something good from their loot tables, there is now a new reason to fight some of Diablo 4‘s big bads. The great thing about these new boss rewards is that you’ll earn them simply by defeating the right bosses, and there is no randomized element to them like there is with loot drops.

Season Eight of Diablo 4 is also adding new boss fights in the form of Apparition Incursion events, and it is reworking the way that Endgame/Ladder bosses worked thanks to its new Lair boss system. There are also a few new Lair bosses being added to the game, including Urivar and the Harbinger of Hatred from Vessel of Hatred and Belial from Diablo 3. All these new updates plus the game’s new boss rewards mean that there has never been a better time to take on Diablo 4‘s boss battles than Season Eight.

Diablo 4 Is Adding Boss Powers To Siphon

Diablo 4 Lets You Take Moves From Powerful Bosses

Diablo 4‘s exciting new boss rewards are unique powers that you can siphon from the bodies of bosses you’ve defeated. These powers allow you to use one of the significant moves that the boss used against you or gain some unique buffs. Diablo 4 is basically taking what I’ve always wanted from a playable boss in video games and giving it to my player character, which is even cooler. The ability to use the type of moves that have been wiping you out in tough fights offers a real sense of progression.

Diablo 4 Needed Endgame Buffs, But Maybe Not Like This

Since its release, Diablo 4 players have had mixed reactions to the endgame content it features. However, a new challenge is coming to fix that.

There are 24 boss powers being added when Diablo 4‘s Season Eight starts on April 29, 2025. The boss powers can also be tested right now in the PTR until March 18. Each boss power has two aspects to it: an active Main power and a passive Modifier power. Main powers are the actual moves that you’re taking from the boss, whereas Modifiers are special buffs. You’ll get both the Modifier and Main powers from a boss when you defeat them.

You will be able to use one Main power and up to three Modifier powers at the same time. This means you’ll be able to mix and match buffs from Modifiers to find the perfect combination for your chosen Main power. 13 of these new powers can be obtained at any difficulty level, whereas the remaining 11 must be acquired at Torment I or higher difficulties. Adding this variety of new powers and buffs is a fantastic way for Diablo 4 to encourage players to track down and defeat as many bosses as they can.

Boss Powers Are A Great Way To Reward Challenging Fights

Boss Powers Offer An Additional Incentive To Defeat Bosses

Boss powers are an awesome new addition to Diablo 4 for several reasons. First, it’s nice to know that certain bosses will give you a definitive reward. It can be somewhat disappointing when you finish a difficult fight only to get a loot drop that you aren’t going to use. Sure, even loot you aren’t going to use is far from useless, but it’s still a bit of a letdown. Adding a definitive reward that can make any player stronger is a good way to offset this potential disappointment that loot tables can generate.

Diablo 4: Season 7 – Druid Cataclysm Endgame Build

The Cataclysm Druid may be among the strongest builds in Diablo 4 right now, but with the amount of damage you can deal, it’s easy to see why.

Another nice aspect of boss powers is that, similar to Diablo 4 Season Seven’s witch powers, all these boss powers can be used by characters of any class. While some powers may be better suited to certain classes, there’s no real downside to using the ones you get while you’re waiting for the optimal build. The addition of Modifier powers also increases the likelihood that you’ll get some benefit out of a boss power, even if you don’t want to use its Main ability. Getting instantly stronger for defeating a boss is always going to feel like a big plus.

Getting to use a boss’s moves is also a feature that simply speaks to me. Bosses in Diablo 4 have no shortage of cool and devastating powers that will be a lot of fun to get to use for myself. Few things are as rewarding as seeing a character in a game do something cool, wishing you could do it, and then being given the chance to do so.

How Boss owers Can Change Diablo 4 Gameplay

Boss Powers Can Improve Builds And Add Powerful New Moves

Diablo 4‘s boss powers will help change how players decide to build during Season Eight. Some of the new abilities could help buff builds that otherwise aren’t terribly powerful, while some will help improve already strong builds and make them even more effective. One good example is the Beastmaster’s Training power that can be gained through the Apparition Incursion event.

Diablo 4: Season 7 – Necromancer Endgame Build Guide

In Diablo 4’s new Season of Witchcraft, Necromancers are one of the strongest options for completing endgame content, and here’s how to build one.

The active skill for Beastmaster’s Training will have each of your Summons or Mercenaries taunt enemies and gain 40% damage reduction when you first call them. That said, I think I would prefer the Modifier skill, which gives all Summons at least five percent more damage, scaling up to 17% based on your items and Paragon board. This could be a huge buff for the already powerful Necromancer build that we’ve seen in Season Seven.

Some of the higher-level boss powers also look like a lot of fun in their Main forms. Lilith’s Wind of Hate sends a wave of spikes that deal 250% Physical damage, and enemies take more damage each time it hits them. Duriel’s Burrow alters your Evade into an attack where you tunnel underground, immobilizing enemies and dealing massive damage. Moves like this are going to make you much more efficient at clearing out enemies.

Interview With Diablo Creator Reveals That Newer MMOs & RPGs Are “Kind Of Silly”

One of the original creators of the Diablo series shared his thoughts on modern-day ARPGs and MMOs, and doesn’t think they have improved.

There are a lot of great new possibilities thanks to Season Eight’s new boss rewards, and I would encourage you to check out all the available boss powers in Diablo 4. While Season Seven added some cool new features and I thought witch powers were a nice addition, I’m even more excited to try out boss powers in Season Eight. I hope to see Diablo 4 continuing to experiment with powers that can be used by all characters, as it adds a fun new dynamic to builds and gameplay.
