Who Is Hank MacLean Speaking To At The End Of Fallout Season 2’s Premiere?

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Fallout season 2, episode 1.

Fallout season 2 is off to a roaring start with the premiere setting up some major developments, especially around Hank MacLean’s new line of work. Fallout season 1 saw Hank revealed to be someone who played a central role in killing many other survivors at Shady Sands, and trying to create a new world as part of Vault-Tec.

With this revelation rocking his daughter, Lucy, and forcing him to flee, Hank is now taking steps to take control of the wasteland and create a new and better world, no matter how many people he must kill in order to achieve it. However, when Hank arrives at his old office, he makes contact with a mysterious stranger who could be central to uncovering what brought on the apocalypse in the first place.

Fallout season 2, episode 1 ends with Hank MacLean arriving at an office building with a lab where he finds his old phone and checks for messages. To his delight, he has thousands of messages waiting in his inbox, and he excitedly prepares to begin working after 200 years away.

Shortly after, we also see Hank record a message to a mysterious individual in the Global Comms room as he delivers a progress report, and suggests that continuing the research will lead to Hank being a central part of the new world in partnership with the person on the other end of the line.

In the message, Hank mentions a few important details. He references that Vegas is the “old stomping ground” of the other person and that he is continuing the work where they left off. These details, combined with the technology that Hank is working with in the lab, seem to confirm that his contact is Robert House, a character who ruled New Vegas in the video games.

Earlier in the same episode, Robert House, as played by Justin Theroux, who was announced as playing the part in August 2025 by Variety, can be seen using a similar piece of technology before the nuclear blasts. And the subject he uses it on has their head explode, which is consistent with the decaying subjects in Hank’s lab.

While Hank is an employee of Vault-Tec, and Robert House is the founder and CEO of Rob Co., it seems as though Robert’s technology is instrumental to Hank’s plan, and the pair are working together to create something that will change the face of the new world in Fallout season 2.
