Rumors of a new expansion for The Witcher 3 have been making the rounds for months now, and the latest mention has a lot of fans looking forward to new content. Although a decade has passed since the release of The Witcher 3, the RPG still looms large in the industry, and the game’s community is as dedicated as ever. With a follow-up game finally on the horizon, a new Witcher 3 expansion could be the perfect appetizer.
A Twisted Voxel article from December 11 mentioned the latest DLC rumors (courtesy of the Rock and Borys podcast), and fans on Reddit have started up some spirited conversations about the possibility of new content. Users like Snck_Pck caution against the possibility of overhyping any future DLC, but it’s not that easy to slow down the hype train. As Material_Ad_554 puts it, developer CD Projekt Red’s track record with DLC makes it likely that “it’s going to be a banger.”
The Witcher 3 May Get A Third Expansion
Maybe The End Wasn’t The End
Direct sources on the alleged Witcher 3 DLC are hard to come by, but Rock and Borys have repeatedly claimed that sources in the Polish game community have confirmed its development. Previously, the podcast alleged that developer Fool’s Theory is working on the DLC. Fool’s Theory was recently responsible for The Thaumaturge, an interesting CRPG set in a fantastical take on Warsaw, and the studio is already hard at work on a remake of the first Witcher game.
There’s no real confirmation of how big the DLC will be, but the timeline so far would indicate that it’s more than just a new weapon or costume. Ahead of The Witcher 4, some kind of story content tying the two games together would make a lot of sense, and markg900 suggests that “more playable Ciri content” is likely.
It’ll Keep Us Busy Till The Witcher 4
2026 Is Looking Pretty Open
The Witcher 4 footage shown so far indicates that Ciri has experienced some major changes since The Witcher 3, which provides an obvious gap for an expansion to bridge. CDPR has already confirmed that The Witcher 4 won’t launch in 2026, setting up the perfect window for a major DLC release.
This is still all just speculation, so placing faith in a forthcoming DLC for The Witcher 3 might be ill-advised, especially after The Game Awards 2025 passed without any mention of the game. If the rumors are right, however, fans of The Witcher 3 might not have to wait very long for their next treat.
