The wait for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 may be much shorter than any of us expected. In fact, it shouldn’t be much longer until we learn what the third and final entry in the trilogy is officially called.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently confirmed that he and Tetsuya Nomura have narrowed the title of Part 3 to two options.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Has Its Title… Nearly
We just have to wait a little longer
During an (excellent) new interview with Julien Chièze (via Genki_JPN on Twitter) featuring Naoki Hamaguchi and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director Guillaume Broche, Hamaguchi confirmed: “We’ve narrowed it down to two, and within this year we’ll finalize which one [it is].”
So, what are those two options? There are a lot of fun theories floating around at the moment. The consensus seems to be that the third game will be called Return or Reunion. There is, however, already a game called Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7: Reunion, so I think we can probably rule that one out.
It’s not a surprise to learn work is progressing smoothly on the trilogy closer. In an interview with VGC back in October this year, Hamaguchi confirmed Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is coming on nicely, and that it might even be with us sooner than we expected.
“It’s something really satisfying that gamers can get their teeth into, and it’ll be just a brilliant experience that it really should be and has to be. So we’re going to work on that, brush that up even further, and then deliver it in the not-too-distant future. You really can look forward to that climax of the series, and it’ll be exactly what you want it to be. So don’t worry about that. It’s coming, and it’s just as good as you think it is. I’m very confident in the game that I’m making there.”
Final Fantasy Fans Don’t Have Long To Wait
All will become clear soon
Nomura also added back in September of this year that Square Enix had already decided on release timing for the game.
“Things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided,” he said. “We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.”
Exactly how patient remains to be seen at this stage, but we do know that an appearance at The Game Awards has been ruled out, so I would imagine we won’t learn about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3‘s title until early 2026. I’d also guess — and I must stress this is a guess — that we’ll get a release date when we get the title. Watch this space.
