Jenna Ortega has an idea about where a character dynamic needs to go in Wednesday season 3, and she’s absolutely right. Wednesday season 2 ended on September 3, 2025, with part 2, a month after part 1 dropped on Netflix. It didn’t take long for season 3 to be announced, though we still don’t know when it’s coming.
Based on the beloved comic characters created by Charles Addams, who have been a part of the pop culture firmament for years, Wednesday is a charming, somewhat unexpected iteration of these characters. Ortega has made Wednesday Addams hers in a way, few young actors do, so when she has an idea, best to listen.
Jenna Ortega Thinks Wednesday & Morticia Should Stop Arguing In Season 3
Jenna Ortega shared her thoughts about what Wednesday and Morticia Addams’ (Catherine Zeta-Jones) relationship should look like going forward in the series, saying, “I would like them [Morticia and Wednesday] to stop arguing and team up.” Morticia and Wednesday have a chilly relationship at the start of the series, but it’s begun to thaw.
A minor character in season 1, only appearing in two episodes, Morticia became a bigger part of the story in season 2, appearing in every episode. Despite growing a bit closer by the Wednesday season 2 finale, the mother-daughter duo still aren’t exactly friends, but Ortega would like to see that changed.
Ortega said, “We’d just been talking about women banding together, and you see that a bit in the final episode, or episodes. I think we should lean into that.” She continued, “ I think we should lean into that. It’s really exciting and refreshing to see women displayed that way.”
Why A Team-Up With Wednesday & Morticia Would Be Great For Season 3
Jenna Ortega has a good point; it would be good to see the maturation of the relationship between Wednesday and Morticia, and not just because that would mean having the excellent duo of Ortega and Zeta-Jones on the screen together more often. This series may be called Wednesday, but there’s a reason its inspiration is called The Addams Family.
The family aspect of the characters can’t be ignored, and the show actually already pivoted in that direction between seasons 1 and 2. Wednesday season 1 focused heavily on a Wednesday-centered love triangle, but season 2 shifted the story to be more about the Addams and their history, specifically regarding Morticia’s mother.
At the end of season 2, it’s revealed that Morticia has a sister, Ophelia, kept locked up. This would be the perfect opportunity to confront a legacy of difficult mother-daughter relationships. Morticia may have a tough time with her mother, but perhaps in Wednesday season 3, she’ll learn how not to make the same mistakes with her own daughter.
