Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are reprising their roles as Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 7, and the movie’s first trailer might explain why the characters return. Chad and Mindy are two of Scream 7‘s growing list of returning characters, which is highlighted by legacy characters Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).
Though Gale appeared in Scream 6, Sidney was absent for the 2023 sequel, making it the only franchise film not to include Campbell. Then again, her exclusion made sense from a story standpoint as Scream 6 remained focused on Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), who made up the “Core Four” alongside Chad and Mindy following the events of Scream 5.
Seeing as the entirety of the “Core Four” survived Scream 6‘s ending, it will be interesting to see how Scream 7 explains Chad and Mindy’s return without the Carpenter sisters. There is lingering controversy surrounding Scream 7 due to Barrera’s firing from the sequel and Ortega’s subsequent exit from the franchise. Granted, the trailer may have hinted at Chad and Mindy’s role in Scream 7‘s story.
Scream 7’s Trailer Confirms That Chad & Mindy Return Because Of Gale
About midway through the Scream 7 trailer, Gale shows up seemingly ready to help Sidney take down Ghostface again. Gale, of course, has already been through this scenario six previous times, though she was nearly killed in Scream 6.
When Gale shows up during the trailer, Chad can be seen getting out of the same car, confirming that Gale is the link to Chad and Mindy arriving in Pine Grove to help Sidney and her family. Now the question is whether they were recruited or if they felt as if they had no choice due to more personal threats.
By now, Chad and Mindy would be very familiar with Gale and Sidney. Not only did they experience the same events in 2022’s Scream, but the siblings also worked more closely with Gale during the events of Scream 6 in New York City. Gale being the reason the Meeks-Martin twins return in Scream 7 has been teased leading up to the trailer. However, the stakes might be high if Chad and Mindy agreed to put their lives on the line again.
Chad & Mindy Will Have Another Encounter With Ghostface After Nearly Dying In Scream 6
While Gale seems like the key to explaining why Chad and Mindy are back for Scream 7, the trailer also confirms that the twins will have at least one more face-off with Ghostface. The two have quite a history of Ghostface run-ins, having both been nearly killed in Scream 5 and again in Scream 6. Whereas Mindy was stabbed while riding on the subway, Chad was attacked by two Ghostface killers.
Following their surprise survivals in Scream 5, Chad and Mindy making it through Scream 6 was even more remarkable. Seeing as they are both shown fighting with Ghostface in Scream 7 in what looks like a bar, it will be interesting to see if one or both are actually killed off this time, or if the latest sequel continues the running gag that the Meeks-Martin twins are basically immortal.
