Vince Gilligan's New Series Pluribus Premieres On Apple TV In November

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has a new series premiering on Apple TV in November, called Pluribus, and it looks like a very different show than his iconic crime saga. The Breaking Bad franchise ended with Better Call Saul’s final episode three years ago, and Gilligan hasn’t made any further plans to expand the universe with another spinoff or El Camino-style movie.

But Gilligan is still hard at work, creating fascinating television for the enjoyment of the viewing public. We haven’t seen anything new from Gilligan since the final season of Better Call Saul aired in 2022. In all that time, he’s been slowly but surely building up a new sandbox to play in, and it’s just a couple of weeks away.

Vince Gilligan’s New Show Starring Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn Premieres November 7

On November 7, Apple TV will premiere the nine-episode first season of Gilligan’s new show Pluribus, starring Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn. Seehorn plays a historical romance author named Carol Sturka, who seems to be the only person who’s immune to a strange virus that’s made the world’s population happy, content, and optimistic. Carol is the only person who can still experience nihilism and misery.

Gilligan pitched the series following the end of Better Call Saul in 2022, and he’s been working on it ever since. Pluribus’ first two episodes — both written and directed by Gilligan himself — will drop on Apple TV on November 7, and the remaining seven will be released weekly until the finale airs on December 26.

Rhea Seehorn’s Kim Wexler Was One Of The Best Additions To The Breaking Bad Universe

The fact that Gilligan has reunited with Seehorn to play the lead role in his new show is a good sign, because Seehorn was one of the best parts of Better Call Saul. Kim Wexler was an ingenious creation that expertly played on the audience’s expectations. She never appeared in Breaking Bad, so Better Call Saul viewers dreaded what fate awaited her in the prequel.

Seehorn’s performance was the perfect counterpoint to Bob Odenkirk’s. As Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill slipped into amorality, Seehorn’s Kim remained a beacon of light. She’s a genuinely good person in a franchise full of evildoers. Kim is a modern-day Atticus Finch, taking on pro bono clients who couldn’t otherwise afford legal representation on her level.

Pluribus Will Be Completely Different From Breaking Bad And Better Call Saul

Pluribus takes place in Albuquerque, so the dusty environments will be familiar to Breaking Bad fans, but other than that, it’ll be a very different show. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are both pulpy crime stories grounded in the real world (with some fictionalized flourishes), but Pluribus is a gonzo sci-fi thriller about an epidemic of happiness.
