This article contains spoilers for Gen V season 2.
All viewers have had one thought about The Seven in The Boys for quite some time, and Gen V season 2’s villain seems to have finally addressed it.
The Boys season 1 had first introduced The Seven as the mightiest supe team in its universe, portrayed as a parody of DC’s Justice League. Landing a place in the supe team meant reaching the highest power, fame, and public adoration in The Boys’ universe. However, the more the show progressed, the more truth about The Seven became evident.
While some supes, like Homelander, Queen Maeve, and Black Noir, proved to be overpowering and worthy additions to the supe team, the involvement of others, like The Deep, made little sense. Viewers have always questioned the skewed power hierarchy created by The Seven in The Boys, and Gen V has now finally highlighted the problem with it.
Thomas Godolkin’s Philosophy In Gen V Season 2 Is Terrible, But He’s Right About The Seven
After Marie heals him in Gen V season 2’s episode 7, Thomas Godolkin questions how supes are treated and hopes to execute his own plan of creating a supe-ruled world. He firmly believes that supes are not respected enough because too many of them have visible weaknesses or useless powers.
He envisions a supe utopia where only the highly overpowered supes rule the world while non-powered humans worship them. Godolkin also criticizes The Seven in Gen V season 2, highlighting how seemingly harmless supes like The Deep and Firecracker have earned a place in the premier team when they do not even deserve it.
He hates how Vought’s recruits for The Seven have set a significantly low standard for the supe team when it should be considered an ensemble of the best supes in their world. Although Godolkin’s vision of eradicating all weak supes from the world is morally wrong, his criticism of The Seven makes sense.
Gen V Season 2’s Ending Establishes A Better Alternative To Vought’s Supe Team
When Gen V season 1 introduced its own young supe roster, many viewers could not help but notice how they seemed far stronger than The Seven. Homelander could single-handedly take down several strong supes with ease. However, most other new supes on The Seven would not stand a chance against Marie, Cate, Sam, Emma, and Jordan.
Owing to this, it is hard not to see the young supes as a better and stronger alternative for The Seven. After Gen V season 2’s ending arc, the young supes will also join forces with Starlight, A-Train, and other members of the newly introduced “Resistance.” This makes the heroes’ team-up far stronger than Vought’s The Seven.
The Boys Season 5 Needs To Answer The Franchise’s Biggest Question About The Seven
The Boys season 5 must directly address why Vought keeps destroying The Seven by recruiting incompetent supes. Some might argue that Vought serves more as a corporate propaganda machine than a true superhero organization. They even hired Firecracker because of her ability to spread hate.
The Boys season 5 is expected to come out on Prime Video in 2026.
However, as The Boys reaches its closing arc and Starlight’s “resistance” grows stronger, Homelander could really benefit from having some decent supes on his side. The ones like The Deep and Firecracker would be able to do nothing when the final battle escalates. Given how Soldier Boy is all set to return in The Boys season 5, Homelander could at least have one incredibly strong ally on his side.
