Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has named his leadership group after taking over in the summer.
One of the Dane’s first jobs was to name a new captain after Heung-Min Son departed to LAFC, and he settled on Cristian Romero.
Now, he has added some key figures to the group around him, including Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario.
Speaking ahead of the club’s trip to Leeds this weekend, he said: “Finally! You guys pushed me so I had to take a decision. I couldn’t postpone anymore.
“It’s down to a few bits. There is quite a few with leadership potential in them, and I think the more we can have that want to speak and take responsibility for the bigger picture, the better.
“That’s what I think creates the best teams. I think this group also covers the squad, to make sure we get around to everyone, so that all groups are touched and in sync. So there’s lots of factors.”
New contracts
In addition to the new group, Frank spoke on midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur signing a new contract.
He added: “First and foremost, it is fantastic news that the club has managed to first extend Romero’s contract but also now Bentancur’s contract.
“I think that is a big sign that both of them believe in the project and the future here. Hopefully the fantastic journey we are going to be on together.
“Bentancur is a top player. He has been a top player for Tottenham. I think we can get even more out of him. There’s an even higher level.”
Finally, the Spurs manager gave a general update on the fitness of his players.
“Romero is fit and available and he will start tomorrow. That is promising news. There was a contact to the foot, and the medical did a good job to get him turned around, so trained and ready for tomorrow.
“Dom was a minor procedure to the foot, it went well. So that’s good. In terms of the time frame, we will know more after the international break.
“Kolo Muani has been on the pitch the last two days, so that is very positive.”
