Arteta on Gabriel’s fitness

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of the Premier League clash against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners picked up a third-straight win after a 2-0 victory over Olympiacos in the Champions League. Gabriel had a good outing, but was substituted at the death after picking up a knock.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said that the Brazilian should be OK for the London derby. He felt something like a kick and was substituted as a precaution, given his workload in recent weeks.

Arteta said: “Yeah, I think he’s going to be OK. He felt something, I think it was a kick, I’m not sure, in the first half, and he was a bit uncomfortable, and towards the second half he was there.

“He could carry on, but we decided not to take any risks because he’s played a lot of games, he’s coming from a long-term injury as well, and we need to look after him.”

The Gunners can temporarily climb to the top of the league standings by beating the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday.

West Ham have had concerns from set-pieces for some time and Gabriel should relish the opportunity to score in the London derby.
