Big wins for Bayern, Marseille and Atletico Madrid

Tuesday evening’s Champions League action saw convincing wins for Bayern Munich, Marseille and Atletico Madrid, while both Inter and Atalanta also picked up important victories.

Harry Kane, fresh from becoming the quickest player to reach 100 goals for any club in Europe’s top-five leagues, bagged a brace as Bayern ran out 5-1 winners over Cypriot champions Pafos.

Kane opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour before Raphael Guerreiro and Nicolas Jackson extended the German club’s lead.

The England marksman then doubled his tally 10 minutes before the break but Pafos gave the home fans something to cheer before the break when Mislav Orsic found the net.

But there was to be no shock comeback from the hosts after the restart, with Michael Olise adding a fifth for the Bundesliga champions to lift them to the summit of the Champions League table.

Kane has now scored 24 goals in 27 Champions League appearances for Bayern, two more than he bagged in 32 games for former club Tottenham Hotspur in the competition.

After hitting their city rivals for five last weekend, Atletico Madrid were again among the goals at the Metropolitano as they thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Giacomo Raspadori opened the scoring for the hosts after four just minutes, with Robin Le Normand and Antione Griezmann also finding the net before half-time.

Jonathan Burkardt pulled one back for the visitors, but it proved to be little more than consolation as Giuliano Simeone and a Julian Alvarez penalty added sheen to an already convincing display.

Marseille were also clinical in their clash with Ajax. Igor Paixao scored twice inside the opening 12 minutes to set the Ligue 1 club on their way to a resounding 4-0 victory.

Former Premier League players Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbed the other goals as Roberto De Zerbi’s side bounced back from a narrow defeat to Real Madrid on matchday one in style.

Elsewhere, last season’s beaten finalists Inter emerged as comfortable winners in their match with Slavia Praha at San Siro.

Lautaro Martinez scored either side of a Denzel Dumfries goal as the Serie A giants secured a 3-0 win on home soil.

Meanwhile, another Italian top-flight outfit, Atalanta, left it late to come from behind to beat Club Brugge at home.

Christos Tzolis put the visitors ahead at Gewiss Stadium but, with a 15 minutes remaining, the tie was flipped on its head as a penalty from Lazar Samardzic and a Mario Pasalic header gave the Bergamo club a 2-1 victory.
