‘Too soon’ to evaluate Hammers says Nuno

New West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says it is ‘too soon’ to evaluate his side’s performance after a 1-1 draw at Everton.

Nuno replaced Graham Potter at the weekend and saw West Ham fall behind to a powerful Michael Keane header.

But his team were much improved in the second half, equalising through Jarrod Bowen’s angled shot.

The former Nottingham Forest manager said: “It was a tough game and we competed well. There are some positives and some negatives but today was about competing as a team and being close to each other, It is a good first game for us.

“The goal we conceded we should have been more aggresive but in the second half we defended better. Everything starts from there.

“Things will come naturally if we take the right steps forwards.

“It is too soon to have too much analysis about my team. There are lots of things to improve, we have to know the players better.

“The message was clear, every ball matters.”

Everton boss David Moyes was frustrated his side could not build on Keane’s opener as he saw them concede a Premier League goal in their new stadium for the first time.

“We played some decent stuff at times, we got a goal but we couldn’t get a second one which would have been all important,” he said.

“We did a lot of good things but we just couldn’t quite craft a chance to get a second goal. Once we didn’t get it, West Ham grew in confidence and belief that they could get something themselves which they did.” Some good things and some not so good things but West Ham have talented players so it was always going to be a tough game for us.”
