The Boys has previously joked about Elon Musk on several occasions, but it shows no qualms about taking things even further in Gen V season 2.
Since season 1, The Boys has drawn many hilarious references to the real world and subtly poked fun at everything from corporate greed to celebrity culture. In its opening installment, the show’s spin-off, Gen V, did something similar by satirizing influencer culture and the flaws in modern high school education.
One figure that The Boys has almost consistently mocked with its satire is Elon Musk. Although the show never explicitly name-called him, it has often compared one of its main characters with the tech billionaire either through story beats or through memes on social media. Gen V has now officially picked up on the same trend and taken The Boys‘ Elon Musk mockery even further.
The Boys Has Mocked Elon Musk On More Than One Occasion
Soon after Donald Trump’s presidential victory in 2024, Elon Musk was appointed to run a temporary government organization called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The Boys‘ official social media handle made fun of this in a post where it announced that Vought was making The Deep the head of a new agency: Department of Preserving Earth (DOPE).
Just like DOGE was responsible for reducing US government spending and cutting jobs, The Deep was hired under Homelander’s rule “to make our oceans a little more Super.” Check out the post below:
Elon Musk’s run as the de facto head of DOGE was short-lived, as he soon ended up backing off from his position. The Boys did not hold itself from taking a jab at this as well by making a social media post that revealed how The Deep, too, was wrapping up his work at the Department of Preserving Earth (DOPE).The post even justified his actions by claiming that the gig was always supposed to last for just six months because The Deep was caught up with several other missions. These social media posts on The Boys‘ Vought International handle kept things a little cryptic without explicitly mentioning real-world names, but the parallels were always quite evident.
Gen V Takes The Mockery To A Whole Another Level By Directly Naming Musk
Gen V season 2 surprisingly takes things up a notch by directly name-calling Elon Musk in a sequence. There is a scene in the show’s episode 4 where Godolkin University’s new dean, Cipher, helps Marie hone her blood-curdling abilities. He brings her a goat named Elon and asks her to make the animal move from one place to another using her powers.
Marie is initially hesitant about following Cipher’s orders because she fears she might kill the goat. However, Cipher assures her that they have purposefully named their goats “for a**holes.” Gen V season 2’s mockery seems levels above The Boys because it goes as far as directly naming Elon Musk multiple times in a sequence.
