Liverpool manager Arne Slot has slammed Cody Gakpo following the club’s late Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Merseyside giants suffered their first defeat of the campaign against the Eagles. Eddie Nketiah scored a last-minute winner for the hosts.
Speaking after the game, Slot said that Palace deserved the outcome of the game, but added that one player could have defended better.
The Dutchman highlighted that there was no need to engage in a counter-attack as the referee was going to blow the whistle after the corner.
Slot did not mention Gakpo’s name in his post-match presser but replays from the game showed that it was him, who vacated his position in the box.
Slot said: “One of our players decided to run out because he wanted to play a counter attack, which was of no use because time was up.”
Liverpool remain top of the table after the defeat to the Eagles, but their advantage over the second-placed side has reduced to three points.
