Moon Knight is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the franchise’s latest series, but his story ends up being a worse snub for Oscar Isaac than the fact that season 2 of his TV show has yet to happen. With an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score, Moon Knight season 1 was received well, which led to many asking about Moon Knight season 2 updates.
However, since the first season aired in 2022, the MCU has not got any closer to season 2 being greenlit. A few updates have been shared by creatives and Isaac over the years, but none of them point to Marvel’s upcoming projects, including Moon Knight season 2, including Oscar Isaac’s recent July update, claiming season 2 is still “not confirmed.”
While it seems like Marvel Studios might have no plans to ever make Moon Knight season 2, the character continues coming back. That has happened in animated form, with Moon Knight appearing in What If…? season 3, where Oscar Isaac voiced the character. Now, a version of the hero shows up in the MCU’s latest TV show, but the actor did not return.
Moon Knight’s Fate In Marvel Zombies Is Worse Than Season 2 Not Happening

This world is lived-in, with rich lore that includes many character deaths both in the original What If…? episode that the show spun off from, as well as events never shown onscreen. Moon Knight is affected by the latter.
Marvel Zombies episode 1 sees Moon Knight save Ms. Marvel. However, it is not Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector, but a version of Mahershala Ali’s Blade. Blade reveals that Khonshu’s fist died in the zombie apocalypse, meaning Isaac’s Marvel character was killed off-screen for another hero to take over as Moon Knight. That snub feels even worse than no season 2, as Marc was easily replaced.
Adding to that, Blade gets a few epic moments in action sequences that show how Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight could have had an exciting role had he appeared in the show. Finally, Marvel Zombies‘ ending sees the Blade version of Moon Knight die by a burst of red energy. Now, both versions of Moon Knight are dead, which is disappointing.
How Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight Could Return In The MCU If Season 2 Never Happens
Judging by the lack of movement on Moon Knight season 2, fans have a better chance of seeing Oscar Isaac return as the hero elsewhere. That could happen as early as next year, as Avengers: Doomsday still has many characters under wraps. Moon Knight could be one of them, as the MCU movie brings together heroes from all corners of the franchise.
If he is not in the 2026 film, Moon Knight could always show up in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars to be there for the end of the Multiverse Saga, setting up his role in the franchise moving forward. Alternatively, a Midnight Suns — Marvel’s premiere supernatural team — movie could unite Blade and Moon Knight on the big screen, responding to Marvel’s Oscar Isaac snub.
