Forest ‘didn’t get rewards’ in Europa League draw

Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou says his side were ‘outstanding’ at times despite losing a lead again late on to draw 2-2 with Real Betis.

Forest’s first European match in nearly 30 years ended in draw as Manchester United flop Antony’s late strike extended boss Postecoglou’s wait for his first win.

Igor Jesus’ fine double put Forest on track for a famous and long overdue win on the road but they slumped in the second half.

Postecoglou, who won the Europa League with Tottenham last season, told TNT Sports: “I think first I should be proud of the players’ efforts.

“It’s a difficult place to come, difficult conditions, people don’t realise the humidity out there, how energy sapping it is, even the pitch and I thought our football was outstanding at times in the first half. The thing I could fault is we didn’t put the game to bed.

“In the second half we had to sit off a little bit and had to defend. I never really felt threatened by it and I don’t think our goalkeeper had many saves to make.

“I’m just disappointed that the players and supporters don’t get the rewards for our efforts. I’ve just got to make sure they keep their heads up because there’s plenty to be positive about and the wins will come.”
