Marina Sirtis gives the lowest odds on whether Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s cast will reunite again after Star Trek: Picard season 3. The final season of Star Trek: Picard set up a potential spinoff that fans, the actors, and the creative team were excited about, dubbed Star Trek: Legacy.
However, Star Trek: Legacy never became more than an idea that fans clamored for, and still do, with recurring letter-writing campaigns and online posts. Paramount+ didn’t seize the opportunity to make Star Trek: Legacy, focusing instead on its Star Trek projects already in development.
On her Instagram (@officialmarinasirtis), Marina Sirtis answered a fan question about whether she would ever return to Star Trek as Counselor Deanna Troi. Sirtis gave her opinion that the chances of another Star Trek: The Next Generation cast reunion are “zero to none” after the “opportunity was missed” for Star Trek: Legacy. Read her quote below:
“I think that the opportunity was missed at the end of Picard, if we were going to continue with TNG. I think that would have been the opportunity to do that, but, obviously, that didn’t happen. So the chances of all of us getting together again, I think, are pretty zero to none.”
“I’m not saying I would never go back. I think that if they asked me to be on one of the other shows, depending on the role or the storyline, I would absolutely consider it. I mean, I wouldn’t go back just to say, ‘Captain, he’s hiding something.’ But, you know, if it was meatier than that, I would definitely give it my consideration. I’ve never said I would never go back to Star Trek.”
Marina Sirtis also reiterated how much she loves Star Trek and leaves it up to the fans to continue to advocate for her return as Troi or for another Star Trek: The Next Generation comeback. Watch Marina’s Instagram video below:
Why Marina Sirtis Says TNG’s Cast Reuniting In Star Trek: Legacy Won’t Happen
Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas hoped season 3’s critical and audience acclaim would lead to Paramount+ moving forward with Star Trek: Legacy, about Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and the USS Enterprise-G, that was set up at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3.
Matalas wrote a portion of Star Trek: Legacy‘s pilot, and he hoped to bring back TNG‘s iconic actors in guest roles, while the new series would focus on the voyages of Seven of Nine’s Starship Enterprise.
As Marina Sirtis points out, the opportunity for Star Trek: Legacy was missed. Terry Matalas is now the showrunner of Marvel Studios’ Vision Quest, and has other projects in the pipeline. However, perhaps Sirtis can reprise Troi somehow in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Our Take On Whether Star Trek: TNG’s Cast Will Reunite In Star Trek: Legacy
With Paramount now owned by Skydance and making Star Trek a priority in feature films and new streaming shows on Paramount+, there is a new glimmer of hope for Star Trek: Legacy.
There’s no denying Star Trek: Picard season 3 was arguably the most well-received Star Trek on Paramount+ project since Star Trek: Discovery relaunched the TV franchise in the streaming era.
Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison is a Star Trek fan who executive produced J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies, so it’s possible Star Trek: Legacy could be reassessed as a TV series or a movie. If so, hopefully, Terry Matalas could be brought back to oversee it.
In Star Trek, there are always possibilities. Marina Sirtis would be happy to return as Counselor Deanna Troi, and there is always hope that the magic of Star Trek: Picard season 3 could be recreated by another Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion.
