Is John Cena’s Character Trapped?

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Peacemaker season 2, episode 5.Peacemaker season 2’s latest episode marks a turning point for the DC Universe series due to the hero’s decision at the end of the episode. Cliffhangers are not uncommon for the TV-MA series, which had episode 4’s ending, just last week, end in a tense moment as it was revealed that Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt would help Rick Flag Sr. arrest Peacemaker.

Episode 4 also revealed that Michael Rooker’s Red St. Wild had powers, being able to use magic to pinpoint where Eagly was. Peacemaker season 2, episode 5, continued both of those storylines, and the endings were surprising for different reasons. With the multiverse playing a major role this season, the show’s latest episode connects to another DCU release and changes things drastically.

Will Peacemaker Stay In The Alternate Universe?

Peacemaker season 2, episode 5’s ending sees Christopher Smith decide he has a better life to live in the alternate dimension. Over the past couple of episodes, we saw how John Cena’s character fell in love with the other world and how he was weighing his options. After Harcourt made it seem like a relationship between them was impossible, he jumped ship.

Episode 4 had a few big moments, with one of the most crucial being the explanation behind the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. As expected, Peacemaker’s dad did not create it, having stolen it from an alien he killed. It was also revealed that the door to it could be transported, which Peacemaker had done twice in the past.

In episode 5, Peacemaker goes to the other dimension and closes the door behind him. Theoretically, he is supposed to stay forever in the other dimension, as his friends would not have a door to follow him. However, the DC series made a point of showing Adebayo looking at the way Peacemaker used the door.

As she announced at the end of the episode, Adebayo believes she might know how to open it, and the 11th Street Kids will go get Chris back. The question then becomes whether he will choose to return home with his friends when they come calling. So far, there has been no reason to believe that will happen.

In the alternate dimension, Peacemaker has both his father and brother alive, and he is about to enter a relationship with Harcourt. However, there have been hints that something sinister could be in play in that dimension, with theories hinting that White Dragon might have gotten what he wanted, which leads to him being seen as a hero in that reality.

Even if nothing is wrong with the alternate dimension, Peacemaker could still be convinced to return by one character. After all, he had to return to his home dimension to ask Harcourt about their relationship and whether she would want to be with him. Being turned down led him to move realities. If she made her feelings for him known, Chris would likely go back.

The Kaiju Explained – How Peacemaker Connects To Superman

At the very end of the episode, Peacemaker season 2 features a surprising connection to James Gunn’s Superman movie. The Top Trio goes to stop a threat in the alternate dimension that ends up being a giant kaiju. For those who did not watch Superman, the moment might have seemed on par with the show’s over-the-top creatures, nothing more.

However, the kaiju looks exactly like the one David Corenswet’s Superman and the Justice Gang fought in the DCU movie. While Superman wanted to defeat the monster without hurting it, the Justice Gang wanted to neutralize the threat, with Mister Terrific killing the kaiju by detonating bombs inside it. Lex Luthor used the kaiju to distract Superman and enter the Fortress of Solitude.

Eagly’s Primal Eagle Update Explained

Eagly in DCU Peacemaker

Red St. Wild had already revealed that he believed Peacemaker’s pet eagle to be the prophesied Primal Eagle, the one who controlled other eagles, making Eagly his ultimate target. After Wild showed his magic powers in episode 4, the prophecy started to look more possible, and episode 5 confirmed that Michael Rooker’s character was not insane to believe it.

Peacemaker season 2 gave Eagly a power upgrade, confirming that he is the Primal Eagle. When Red St. Wild realized it, he tried to beg Eagly for forgiveness, but the eagle simply ordered the other dozens of eagles he had called to attack. That seemingly marks the end of the road for the character, with Eagly now revealed to be extremely powerful.

Why Emilia Harcourt Arrested Peacemaker Explained

Finally, episode 5 had to resolve last week’s cliffhanger. It turns out that Harcourt was not betraying Peacemaker, as she had secretly warned him with a code word not to come to their meeting. Chris does so anyway because he needs to talk to her in order to know whether he should stay or go to the other dimension.

Later, Harcourt knocks him down and arrests him, but it was only so that Judomaster or the others would not shoot and kill Peacemaker. With episode 5’s ending showing, through Harcourt’s reactions to Chris’ letter about how he could not find redemption in this world, that she felt guilty for how she treated him, Peacemaker episode 6 could feature Harcourt making it right.
