Is This Stardew Valley Creator’s Mysterious Hollow Knight: Silksong Cameo?

Despite plenty of comparisons with its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong has an even more charming cast of characters spread across the expansive underground world of Pharloom. In a world brimming with even more life, there are plenty of options to interact with SIlksong‘s characters and build upon their relationships, but they can hold just as much mystery as well.

By far one of the most trending conversation topics about SIlksong‘s NPCs, aside from the explosive popularity of the adorable Sherma, is the curious credits that state Stardew Valley‘s very own creator voiced characters for SIlksong. Although Silksong‘s credits are vague about who exactly plays which specific characters, there’s been no shortage of guesses as to which character Stardew Valley‘s own Eric Barone offered their performance to.

The Most Likely Candidates For A Fully Voiced NPC

Despite the inhuman bug language and creative accents used by the inhabitants of Pharloom working to cover up Eric Barone’s exact identity in Sillksong, there are a few tells that could have given it away already. After progressing significantly through Silksong, the two most likely candidates so far seem to be the early-game Fleamaster Mooshka or Bellhart’s Pavo.

While it’s hard to say for sure whether either of these two characters is 100% voiced by Stardew Valley‘s creator, after comparing the in-game voice lines with interview clips, each seems to be within a believable range and more human-like cadence of the beloved indie developer. Given that Silksong‘s credits also explicitly say “Additional Voices”, Eric could very well have voiced both, or even more enemies across the game.

Eric Barone’s contributions to Hollow Knight go even further back than Silksong as well, having been credited under the ‘special thanks’ section of the Hollow Knight Wanderer’s Journal. While the connection between the franchises seems a bit random at first, they make more sense when considering that both Stardew Valley and Silksong were created with the help of Matthew Griffin, who currently works as the head of marketing and publishing for Team Cherry.

Silksong’s NPCs Are Easily One Of Its Greatest Strengths

Charming Characters Breath Life Into The World Of PharloomSilksong's hornet standing next to a small bug character playing and singing at a gate.

Whereas the far and few between NPCs in the original Hollow Knight, like Cornifer and Quill, offered a glimmer of hope in the darkness, Silksong‘s unhaunted NPCs have more energetic personae and spirits on their shared journey to the Citadel.

Given how utterly deadly Silksong‘s Pharloom is compared to Hollow Knight‘s early-game, part of the love for these NPCs also comes from the game-changing items they often sell, helping Hornet on her journey through the new land. Regardless of whether Team Cherry or Stardew Valley‘s creator decides to reveal his true voice-acted identity, it isn’t going to change how loveable or humorously tolerable Silksong‘s various characters tend to be.
