WPL 2025: Netizens go wild as Delhi Capitals demolish Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets

Delhi Capitals produced a stellar all-round performance to crush Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets in Match 13 of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Opting to bowl first, Delhi’s bowlers delivered a clinical display, dismantling Mumbai’s batting lineup and restricting them to a modest 123/9 in 20 overs. Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani were the chief architects of Mumbai’s downfall, sharing six wickets between them. In response, Delhi’s batting unit, led by skipper Meg Lanning, made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 14.3 overs. This emphatic victory propelled Delhi to the top of the WPL 2025 points table, strengthening their position for a playoff berth.

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers strangle Mumbai Indians’ batting lineup

Mumbai got off to a steady start, with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews adding 35 runs for the first wicket. However, once Bhatia was dismissed by Shikha Pandey, the innings unraveled. Matthews soon followed, and wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur tried to counterattack with a quickfire 22, but Jonassen’s tight bowling stifled any hopes of recovery. Jonassen finished with impressive figures of 3/25, while Mani spun a web around Mumbai’s middle order, claiming 3/17. The lower order crumbled under pressure, and Mumbai managed only 123/9, a total that was never going to be enough against Delhi’s formidable batting lineup.

Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma lead a commanding chase

Chasing 124, Delhi made their intentions clear right from the start. Lanning and Shafali Verma came out with an aggressive mindset, putting the Mumbai bowlers under immense pressure. The duo stitched together an 85-run opening partnership in just 9.5 overs, with Shafali smashing a blistering 43 off 28 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes. After her dismissal, Lanning took charge, expertly anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 60 off 49 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues provided the finishing touches with a quick 15 off 10 balls as Delhi reached the target with 33 balls to spare.
