Siraj struck during the second session on Day 2 by getting Smith caught behind by Dhruv Jurel for 51. Immediately after the dismissal, Siraj pointed to the sky and folded his hands—an apparent tribute to Jota, whose tragic death along with his brother Andre Silva has sent shockwaves through the global sports community.

Reports indicate that Jota and his brother were en route to a ferry in Spain when their Lamborghini lost control and caught fire. The unfortunate accident occurred past midnight on Thursday, and the two were later laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar, Portugal.

India’s pace unit leads the charge despite England resistance

Earlier in the day, England resumed their innings and looked vulnerable with only a few wickets in hand. However, Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse frustrated the Indian bowlers with a defiant 84-run stand for the eighth wicket. Both batters showed resilience, with Carse scoring 56 and Smith reaching his maiden Test fifty.

The breakthrough finally came when Siraj dismissed both Carse and Smith, ensuring the resistance didn’t stretch too long. Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, led the bowling unit with a stellar five-wicket haul, wrapping up England’s first innings for 387. His victims included key names like Joe Root (104), Ben Stokes (44), and Harry Brook (11).
