Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness remains hopeful the club can sign rising star Nick Woltemade in the near future.

Woltemade enjoyed a strong season with Stuttgart, helping them to win the DFB-Pokal as he scored the opener in their 4-2 win over Arminia Bielefeld in the final.

He netted 12 goals in the Bundesliga from 10.4 expected goals (xG), an overperformance of 1.6. The striker also had the best shot conversion rate (24.5%) of any Stuttgart player to score more than once.

Woltemade also impressed at the European Under-21 Championship, where Germany lost 3-2 to England in the final.

The 23-year-old finished the tournament as the top scorer, netting six goals overall.

Bayern are interested in adding Woltemade to their ranks, though Hoeness is relaxed about a potential deal.

“I consider him a very, very good player who would be a great fit for us,” Hoeness told reporters in Munich.

“We still have time until the end of August. I would welcome it a lot if it happens this year. And if not, then next year.”

Hoeness also confirmed that the club had reached out to AC Milan about a potential deal for Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese winger is contracted to the Italian side through to June 2028 and made 34 appearances for Milan in Serie A last season, scoring eight goals and registering eight assists.

Hoeness said that while there had been early discussions with Milan, nothing was going to come of it.

“Max Eberl [Bayern director of sport] told me that he had talks, but they weren’t fruitful, and it was never an advanced topic of discussion,” he told BR24Sport.

And when asked if a bid was imminent, as had been reported by Italian media, he assured: “No, no.”
