After this latest update on the Fourth Wing show, I am now very confident that Amazon will nail this aspect of the series. Moira Walley Beckett’s exit from Fourth Wing‘s adaptation was a disappointing piece of news for fans of the series, especially considering that previous romantasy adaptation projects have lost key personnel before cancellation, such as ACOTAR.
Fortunately, the Fourth Wing series is quickly rectifying this, with several new candidates, such as Jac Schaeffer, being eyed for the role of showrunner as the series continues forward. According to Deadline, Schaeffer is considered the top contender to take over the project.
If Schaeffer were to take over, though, I know that she would be able to nail the various complexities within Fourth Wing’s story, both the dramatic and the fantastic. One aspect, in particular, would really get to shine on screen, especially as it is the foundation of the narrative: Violet and Xaden’s intense and layered romance.
Violet & Xaden’s Sometimes Obsessive Love Is A Key Part Of The Fourth Wing Books
The Main Plot Of The Empyrean Series Is Inextricably Linked To Their Love Story
The love story between Violet and Xaden is a key component to the plot of the Fourth Wing books, with their actions driving various plot points forward. Although some of their personal issues can, at times, stall the main plot, Violet and Xaden’s love story is what helps the narrative progress for both ofthem individually and as a unit.

Many readers disliked Violet and Xaden’s romance in Onyx Storm, and this may be due to Fourth Wing’s enemies-to-lovers dynamic ending far too soon.
Fourth Wing‘s romance is why the venin threat became as well known as it became, Xaden’s sacrifice and Violet’s discoveries shifting the tide of the war as they tried to navigate and save each other. Due to this, I know that Schaeffer could nail those intricacies because she had already tackled them before in WandaVision and its portrayal of love.
New Showrunner Jac Schaeffer Proved She Can Nail That Aspect Of Fourth Wing With WandaVision
WandaVision’s Story Also Centers On Love & Desperation
Schaeffer would easily be able to capture Fourth Wing‘s romantic tension, since she already portrayed similar themes of obsessive love and loss in WandaVision. WandaVision’s central focus is on lost love and grief, with Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) grappling with her many losses through the use of her magic, which has grown out of her control and caused intense harm to others.
Both protagonists will do anything for their lovers and to reclaim what was lost, even if it comes at the cost of others and their safety.
Wanda and Violet’s journeys with love mirror each other, especially as the romance in Fourth Wing‘s next book is set to focus on loss as well after Onyx Storm‘s ending. Both protagonists will do anything for their lovers and to reclaim what was lost, even if it comes at the cost of others and their safety.
Schaeffer was truly able to dig into the nuances of what drove Wanda to that point, complicating her arc and allowing her the chance to make a different choice. She will likely be able to do the same with Fourth Wing, showcasing all of Violet’s facets as she falls for Xaden and begins to discover what that costs.
