Fans erupt as Shubman Gill’s blazing ton propels India to crucial win over Bangladesh in Champions Trophy 2025

India registered a commanding six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second match of Group A in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Chasing a modest target of 229, India comfortably reached 231/4 in 46.3 overs, thanks to a superb century from Shubman Gill and a steady finish by KL Rahul.

Bangladesh struggle despite Towhid Hridoy’s heroics

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh suffered a nightmare start as Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana rattled the top order. The Tigers lost three wickets for just 5 runs, with Soumya Sarkar and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto departing without scoring. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 23/4 inside six overs.

Towhid Hridoy led the fightback with a well-compiled 100 off 118 balls, supported by Jaker Ali Anik, who scored 68 off 114. The duo stitched together a crucial 142-run partnership, but the rest of the batting order collapsed yet again. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 228 in 49.4 overs, with Shami leading India’s bowling attack with figures of 5/53. Rana also impressed, picking up 3/31 in his debut Champions Trophy game.

Shubman Gill anchors India’s chase with brilliant hundred

India’s chase started on a strong note with captain Rohit Sharma smashing 41 off 36 deliveries. However, Rishad Hossain struck twice to remove Rohit and Shreyas Iyer (15), while Virat Kohli managed a scratchy 22 off 38. Despite the minor hiccups, Gill remained firm, crafting a classy 101 off 129 balls. His innings was laced with nine boundaries and two sixes, providing stability to the chase.

Rahul ensured there were no late jitters, scoring an unbeaten 41 off 47 deliveries, as India comfortably sealed the victory with 21 balls to spare. Hossain was Bangladesh’s standout bowler with figures of 2/38, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman claimed a wicket each.
