A very rough draft trailer for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has resurfaced online five years after it was initially posted, sparking conversation about just how far the game has come. The trailer was originally posted to Reddit by the game’s creator Guillaume Broche, then seeking voice actors to garner investor interest in the work-in-progress. It’s reproduced here in a Reddit post by Palmoleum:
The trailer is markedly different from the final product: premade assets and text-to-speech character voices aside, there are some set pieces that look weirdly sci-fi. That’s not to mention mouse-and-keyboard controls that look wholly different from today’s Clair Obscur‘s Persona-inspired battle menus, and a story and title that seem unrecognizable. The use of premade assets and lack of human voice acting prompted one user, Slowmac123, to comment, “I cant help but think it looks like a ripoff using a 2011 graphics engine.”
