Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for VisionQuest episodes 1 & 2
Marvel’s VisionQuest is finally streaming on Disney+, bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision back for the end of the trilogy that first began with WandaVision, while also featuring the return of James Spader’s Ultron 11 years after his debut in the second Avengers movie. Seeking to understand his identity and the humanity he’s since lost, Vision’s new series is full of great Easter eggs, references, and peak MCU ties.
From crucial callbacks and references to 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2021’s WandaVision, subtle visual cues, and the debut of brand-new characters from the original comics, there’s plenty to explore in VisionQuest’s two-episode premiere alone, with some solid ties to the greater MCU at large.
Keeping that in mind, here are over 40 of the biggest and best Easter eggs, comic book references, key nods, and MCU connections we found in VisionQuest episodes 1 and 2.
No Strings
VisionQuest episode 1 is titled “No Strings”, a key callback to the classic line from Ultron in the second Avengers movie where he compared himself to Pinocchio, now free of humanity’s control with “no strings on me.”
Vision’s Timeline
This first episode kicks off with a solid recap of Vision’s MCU journey thus far, featuring footage from the synthezoid’s birth in Age of Ultron, his romance with Wanda Maximoff, his death in Avengers: Infinity War, and his revival at the end of WandaVision.
Sanford and Son – Disneyland
While working in a pub, Vision is shown watching the old sitcom Sanford and Son and a conversation between the characters Fred Sanford and Grady Wilson about going to Disneyland.
Edinburgh
The pub Vision works at is located in Edinburgh. In Avengers: Infinity War, it was revealed that Wanda and Vision would often visit each other in Edinburgh while the Avengers were split following the events of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Sherwood Ellis
Vision is going by the human name “Sherwood Ellis” in VisionQuest. “Sherwood” and “Ellis” were the street names in Westview where Vision and Wanda’s home was located in 2021’s WandaVision.
“Crushed Under The Weight of a Mountain”
Vision confirms that Wanda’s fate is “complicated” and that she was “crushed under the weight of a mountain”, a reference to Wanda’s controversial death at the end of 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
W + V
In the pub, Vision finds a carving of a heart with the letters “W” and “V”, further confirming that the Vision he once would frequently visit the same pub with Wanda between Civil War and Infinity War.
DUM-E – Fire Suppression
One of DUM-E’s primary skills includes fire suppression, a hilarious nod to the robotic arms’ overzealous efforts in the Iron Man franchise to make sure Tony Stark never caught on fire.
JARVIS – The Older Sibling
JARVIS is presented as an older brother figure to Vision, a perfect characterization considering JARVIS was Tony’s first AI, originally voiced by Paul Bettany before his code was integrated into Vision’s birth. Additionally, it couldn’t be better that James D’Arcy plays JARVIS’ human avatar, as D’Arcy originally played Howard Stark’s real-life butler Edwin Jarvis in both Agent Carter and Avengers: Endgame, the original inspiration for the AI Tony would one day create.
No Avengers Are Looking
There’s a tragic admission from Vision that neither SWORD nor the Avengers are looking for him, despite having been a core member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for years.
