If not cricketers: Rohit Sharma picks alternate careers for Jasprit Bumrah, Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant

Former India captain Rohit Sharma has given cricket fans another reason to smile with his light-hearted take on what some of India’s biggest cricket stars might have done if they had not become professional cricketers. Known for his relaxed personality and sharp sense of humour, Rohit has brought the same easygoing style to his new television show, ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’.

One of the most entertaining moments to emerge from the show involved India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit suggested that the fast bowler could have become a doctor, using Bumrah’s ability to rescue the team in difficult situations as the punchline. His comments have attracted attention among cricket fans, while the names of Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant have also featured in the broader conversation around alternative careers for Indian cricket stars.

Rohit Sharma’s hilarious take on Jasprit Bumrah

Rohit’s suggestion that Bumrah could have been a doctor was based on the fast bowler’s remarkable ability to deliver under pressure, particularly in the closing stages of limited-overs matches.

Explaining his reasoning, Rohit said: “I think Bumrah would have been a doctor. You’ve seen how he bowls some very difficult overs and saves the team. Very few people can bowl these difficult overs. That’s why they are called death overs. Doctors are the ones who save people from death.”

The wordplay perfectly captured Rohit’s humour. Bumrah has repeatedly delivered for India in high-pressure situations, making the comparison an amusing tribute to the pacer’s importance to the team.

Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant add to Rohit’s conversation

Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant are also among the Indian cricket personalities associated with the light-hearted discussion about alternative careers.

Yuvraj, a key figure in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, is known for his confidence and outspoken personality. Pant, meanwhile, has built a reputation for his fearless batting and entertaining presence both on and off the field.

Reflecting on Yuvraj’s entry into the Indian team in 2007, Rohit described former India all-rounder as a “headmaster.” Rohit recalled that Yuvi would initially scold younger players, but his strict approach eventually helped bridge the gap between junior and senior members of the team.

On the other hand, Rohit labelled Pant a “babysitter,” recalling how the wicketkeeper-batter used to entertain the children of Indian players during lengthy overseas tours. Rohit also joked about Pant sharing food from the kids’ plates. The nickname became popular after former Australia captain Tim Paine jokingly asked Pant to babysit his children during the 2018-19 Test series in Australia. Pant later played along with the banter, making the story a memorable moment in India-Australia cricket.

The former India captain has been exploring a different side of his personality through ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma,’ which airs on Sony Entertainment Television and streams on Sony LIV.

The programme gives viewers an opportunity to see Rohit away from the cricket field, interacting with guests and sharing humorous observations. His relaxed hosting style offers a contrast to the intense concentration associated with his role as an international batter and former captain.

For fans who have followed Rohit throughout his career, these moments provide a glimpse of his personality beyond match-winning innings and leadership responsibilities.
