A Taste for Brocade – Julia Berolzheimer

I’ve noticed a theme in what I’ve been saving to my camera roll lately: patterned wallpaper, embroidered upholstery, vintage textiles with metallic thread running through them, anything where the surface rewards a closer look. That same instinct has followed me into getting dressed. Brocade has that almost decorative-art quality I love, and in a matching set, one intricate pattern carries through the whole silhouette like a beautiful piece of fabric brought to life.

For fall, I like bringing that richness into my daytime wardrobe in shapes that are still easy to wear. A jacquard jacket over denim, an embroidered top with trousers, or a brocade skirt with a knit gives an ordinary day a little more occasion, while a full matching set can make the fabric itself the entire story. The appeal is in all those small things you notice up close, the raised weave, glints of thread, layered motifs, and depth of color, which make even a familiar shape feel worth looking at twice.
