EXCLUSIVE: Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is introducing a whole new kind of villain.
The Dexter franchise has been standing strong for 20 years, and Dexter: Resurrection proved that the love for the characters will never die – unlike Dexter’s victims. The spinoff series broke multiple records for both Showtime and Paramount+, and its premiere pulled in 3.1 million cross-platform viewers during its opening weekend, expanding to 4.4 million viewers in its first seven days. It beats the debut numbers for both Original Sin and New Blood. Now, the series will be returning, and Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) will face a whole new threat.
New and old villains will be returning for Resurrection season 2, as Dexter attempts to live a normal life in New York while cleaning up some rather unsavory messes. However, one returning villain, Eric Stonestreet, may have just revealed a whole new threat to everyone’s favorite vigilante.
During an interview for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 at the Funko booth of New York Comic Con, Stonestreet spoke with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley about the upcoming season and its new big bag created by the legendary collaborators Marcos Siega, Clyde Phillips, and Scott Reynolds:
ScreenRant: I understand we’re getting two new serial killers this season. Is there anything you can tease about the Five Boroughs Killer?
Eric Stonestreet: Well, I just saw [the premiere] for the first time myself! And again, I’m always blown away by this world that Marcos [Siega], Clyde [Phillips], and Scott [Reynolds] work in. They keep constantly coming up with new things, and I was just sitting next to my wife there in the room when something happened in the episode. I was like, ‘I hadn’t seen that before…’
And they embrace technology. That’s all I’ll say about that! It’s a very unique thing that happens in a park, with respect to the Five Boroughs Killer. You’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when you see it, but I was like, ‘Well, that’s new, and that was awesome!’ I’m looking forward to seeing where he goes next.
Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will be introducing two new serial killers to New York City, and new targets for the serial killer slayer Dexter Morgan. The New York Ripper, Don Frampt, is a killer who terrorized New York many years ago and has since begun haunting those who survived him. Don Frampt will be played by Brian Cox (known for Succession, Troy, The Bourne Identity).
Another serial killer added was the Five Borough Killer, Owen Stark, who is a young villain with a similar style to the real-life Zodiac Killer. Dan Stevens has been cast as the terrifying big bad who is known for Legion, Beauty and the Beast, The Guest, and Onslaught. While not much is known about either killer, Stonestreet teases a whole new side of killers with Stevens’ character having a scene embracing “technology.”
Dexter Morgan has survived many iconic and sinister killers across two decades, and these two new killers could be his greatest threat yet. Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will arrive on Paramount+ on October 30.
