IND vs WI 2026: Top 5 players who can make a big impact on the T20I series

India and West Indies are set to lock horns in a five-match T20I series, beginning on October 6 in Lucknow. The two sides enter the contest after an entertaining ODI series, which India won 2-1. However, West Indies finished that series strongly with a remarkable run chase in the third ODI.

With plenty of explosive batters and attacking bowlers on both sides, the IND vs WI T20I series promises to be an exciting contest.

IND vs WI: Here are five players who could have a major impact on the T20I series

1. Abhishek Sharma – India

Abhishek Sharma is arguably one of the most dangerous players to watch in India’s T20I squad. The left-handed opener has the ability to take a game away from the opposition within the first few overs.

His recent form makes him particularly interesting ahead of the West Indies series. Against Afghanistan in September, Abhishek smashed 82 off 32 balls in the first T20I and followed it with a stunning 108 off 34 balls in the third match.

Those innings demonstrated his extraordinary ability to combine power with an aggressive approach. If Abhishek gets going in the powerplay, West Indies could find themselves under serious pressure very quickly.

2. Shai Hope – West Indies

West Indies captain Shai Hope enters the T20I series with enormous confidence following his sensational performance in the third ODI.

Hope smashed an unbeaten 162 as West Indies chased down India’s 351/7 in New Chandigarh, producing one of the defining innings of the ODI series.

Although T20 cricket demands a different tempo, Hope’s recent confidence could make him one of West Indies’ biggest threats. He is also expected to provide leadership and stability to a batting lineup packed with aggressive stroke-makers.

With Hope leading from the front, India will need to find a way to prevent him from settling into the innings.

3. Shimron Hetmyer – West Indies

Shimron Hetmyer is another West Indies batter who could make a huge difference in the series.

The left-hander is known for his ability to attack spin and pace and can change the momentum of an innings in a matter of overs. He has also been a particularly dangerous batter in T20 cricket, making his inclusion a major boost for West Indies.

Hetmyer has been recalled to the West Indies T20I setup after not featuring in the ODI squad. His presence adds further experience and power to the middle order.

India’s bowlers will need to be precise against him, particularly during the middle and death overs.

4. Sanju Samson – India

Sanju Samson is another Indian batter capable of producing a match-winning innings when he finds his rhythm.

The wicketkeeper-batter has already shown his ability to dominate West Indies in T20 cricket. He smashed 97 off 50 balls against them at the 2026 T20 World Cup, while also producing impressive performances against Afghanistan later in the year.

Samson’s power-hitting makes him particularly dangerous once the field spreads. He can attack spin, clear the ropes and accelerate quickly during the middle overs.

His selection also gives India flexibility at the top of the order, with the team facing a decision over its opening combination.

5. Arshdeep Singh – India

While the spotlight will naturally fall on the big hitters, Arshdeep Singh could be just as important for India.

The left-arm pacer offers India a genuine wicket-taking option with the new ball and is also capable of bowling crucial overs at the death. His ability to vary his pace and angle makes him difficult to line up, particularly when batters are looking to attack.

Arshdeep recently impressed against Afghanistan, taking 3/19 and 2/35 during the series. He also has a strong previous record against West Indies, including a three-wicket haul in Lauderhill in 2023.

His battle against West Indies’ explosive batting lineup could be one of the key contests of the series.
