Dungeon Crawler Carl Will Officially Return Next Month

After beginning its life as a self-published novel by author Matt Dinniman, Dungeon Crawler Carl soon shot to the top of the LitRPG charts and now, thanks to the help of Ace Books, which took over publishing in 2024, the series has become a cultural phenomenon with eight books currently under its belt.

With over 14 million books sold, the Dungeon Crawler Carl series follows the story of the titular Carl who is joined by his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as the two embark on a dungeon crawl recreated by the resources that an alien corporation has taken from Earth. As two of very few survivors remaining, it is up to them to prove that Earth is still capable of putting up a fight.

Now, with a television show currently in development courtesy of Peacock, as well as a plan for graphic novels, there is also another release that is guaranteed to appeal to Dungeon Crawler Carl fans, who just so happen to enjoy a TTRPG experience.

Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable Launches Next Month

Courtesy of Zatu Games, Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable is a tabletop RPG experience “set in the 18-floor World Dungeon of the Dungeon Crawler Carl novel.” As such, Carl and Princess Donut will need to fight their way through mobs and bosses in solo or co-op campaigns by utilizing a card-crafting system.

With each card offering a sleeve with swappable parts, players will be able to craft and customize cards as they play with the “power curve in this “momentum builder” gives you a fighting chance against the threats you’ll face.”

Explore a single floor of the World Dungeon each time you play. This box contains the first three floors. In true roguelite fashion, however, only a few benefits that you purchase with XP will carry over to the next floor!

Created by John D. Clair, this “roguelike, momentum deck-building game” set in the Dungeon Crawler Carl universe is set to launch on 23 November, but if you do not want to miss out, Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable is now available for pre-order now, coming in at a respectable £44.59.

This Is Just the Beginning

This includes both Dungeon Crawler Carl Unstoppable: Crawler Chaos Expansion and Dungeon Crawler Carl Unstoppable: Iron Tangle Expansion, each at £18.99.

Using Iron Tangle as an example, it offers the fourth floor of the World Dungeon, complete with interconnected subway tunnels, new monsters, new tactics and allies, and upgrades. As the full feature list reads:

  • New Tactics & Upgrades and of course new Threats!
  • Travel on the Nightmare Express with new Allies!
  • Explore a new world Dungeon Level!
  • Expands with 5 new bosses! Kill Kill Kill!
  • Not a standalone game: Core Unstoppable Game required
