India are taking on West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. With both teams looking to begin the series on a positive note, the contest has already produced several notable moments. One of the biggest talking points came in the 36th over when Rohit Sharma produced an excellent effort at first slip to send young Jewel Andrew back to the pavilion.

The wicket came off the fourth delivery of the 36th over, with Kuldeep Yadav bowling to Andrew. The Indian spinner created extra bounce from a length and deceived the batter with a googly. Andrew, unable to read the delivery properly, moved forward in an attempt to defend. However, the ball took the shoulder of his bat and ballooned towards first slip.
Rohit reacted quickly and timed his jump perfectly to complete an overhead catch. The former India captain had to judge the trajectory carefully, but he made no mistake as he held on to the difficult opportunity. The dismissal also sparked celebrations among the Indian players, with Kuldeep Yadav punching the air in delight after claiming another crucial wicket.
More importantly, it was Kuldeep’s second wicket in as many deliveries. The spinner had produced the major breakthrough just one ball earlier by dismissing Justin Greaves, who had played a magnificent innings for West Indies. The double strike gave India a much-needed boost after the visitors had built a strong platform earlier in their innings.

Respectable total for West Indies after Justin Greaves century
West Indies’ innings was largely shaped by an outstanding century from Greaves, who registered his maiden ODI hundred. Greaves showed excellent composure and played a key role in helping the visitors build a competitive total. He found strong support from opening partner John Campbell, who contributed 62 runs. The pair gave West Indies a solid foundation before India managed to fight back and break the partnership.
Once the opening stand was separated, West Indies lost a few wickets in quick succession. India’s bowlers began applying pressure, with Kuldeep’s double strike further strengthening their position. However, Amir Jangoo ensured that West Indies did not lose their way completely. The batter remained unbeaten on 58 and provided the finishing stability his team needed.
With Greaves’ century, Campbell’s valuable contribution and Jangoo’s unbeaten half-century, West Indies managed to post a respectable total despite India’s fightback in the middle overs. They managed to reach 295/7 in their alloted 50 overs.
