Virat Kohli is set to return to action when India take on the West Indies in a three-match ODI series, beginning September 27. With ODI cricket now his only international format, every appearance carries added significance for the former India captain.

Kohli enters the series just 59 runs short of completing 15,000 ODI runs. He also has several other major milestones within reach, including records associated with Sachin Tendulkar and his remarkable record against the West Indies.

Here are five records Virat Kohli can achieve during the IND vs WI ODI series 2026:

1.) Fastest batter to 15,000 ODI runs

The biggest milestone on Kohli’s radar is the 15,000-run mark in ODI cricket.

Kohli has accumulated 14,941 ODI runs in 302 innings, meaning he needs only 59 more runs to become the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the landmark.

More importantly, Kohli can also become the fastest batter in history to score 15,000 ODI runs. Tendulkar reached the milestone in 377 innings, while Kohli is currently at 302 innings.

2.) Most ODI runs in India

Another Tendulkar record is within Kohli’s reach.

Kohli has scored 6,867 ODI runs on Indian soil, while Tendulkar finished with 6,976. That leaves Kohli 110 runs short of becoming the highest run-scorer in home ODIs.

With three matches scheduled in India, Kohli has an opportunity to move past his former teammate’s tally.

Interestingly, Kohli already has a superior average in home ODIs, having scored his runs at more than 62 runs per innings.

3.) Ten ODI Centuries against West Indies

West Indies have traditionally been one of Kohli’s most productive opponents.

The right-hander has scored nine ODI centuries against the Caribbean side, along with 2,261 runs in 43 matches at an average of 66.50.

One century in the upcoming series would take him to 10 ODI hundreds against West Indies.

That would also make Kohli the first batter to score at least 10 ODI centuries against two different opponents, having already achieved the feat against Sri Lanka.

4.) Most international centuries against West Indies

Kohli could also challenge the overall international record for centuries against West Indies.

He currently has 12 international hundreds against the Caribbean side, while Sunil Gavaskar leads the tally with 13. Therefore, one century would take Kohli level with Gavaskar, while two hundreds in the series would give him the outright record.

Kohli’s 12 centuries against West Indies include nine in ODIs and three in Tests.

5.) 13,000 ODI runs at No. 3

Kohli can also reach another rare batting milestone if he produces a substantial series.

He needs 180 runs while batting at No. 3 to complete 13,000 ODI runs at the position. If he reaches that figure, he would become the first player in ODI history to score 13,000 runs while batting at No. 3.

Given that Kohli has spent a significant portion of his ODI career at No. 3, the milestone would underline his extraordinary consistency in the position.
