Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have once again won hearts away from the cricket field after sharing a warm moment with a specially-abled young fan ahead of India’s first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

The two senior India batters are back together in the ODI setup and have already generated plenty of excitement among supporters ahead of the India vs West Indies ODI series. Their interaction with the young fan added an emotional touch to India’s preparations for the series opener.

Kohli was the first of the two stars to approach the young fan. The former India captain was seen speaking briefly with the boy’s father before turning his attention towards the youngster.

Kohli then signed an autograph for the fan before returning to India’s training session.

Moments later, Rohit came over to meet the youngster. The former India captain exchanged a few words with him and gently patted him on the back, creating a memorable moment for the fan and his family.

The youngster then asked Rohit for his autograph.

“Can I have your autograph?” the fan asked.

“Yes, sure,” Rohit replied.

It was a short exchange, but one that carried plenty of meaning for the young supporter.

Rohit and Virat back in India colours

The heartwarming interaction came just days after Rohit and Virat reunited with the Indian team in Thiruvananthapuram.

The veteran duo are part of India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies. Shubman Gill will captain the side, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain.

The first ODI is scheduled for September 27 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The remaining matches will be played in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3.

For Rohit and Kohli, the series is another opportunity to contribute in the 50-over format as India build towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Although Rohit and Kohli are no longer part of India’s Test and T20I plans, their presence remains significant in the ODI setup.

Gill is now leading the team, and the experience of two players who have spent years at the highest level gives India an additional source of knowledge.

India bowling coach Morne Morkel recently highlighted the value of having experienced players around the younger members of the squad. He said the team is fortunate to have senior players who can share their knowledge and encouraged younger cricketers to make use of that experience.

That role extends beyond performances in the middle.
